This week IFDC’s blog
series, Six Pieces of the
Innovation Puzzle,
focuses on creating agricultural opportunities for youth.
In sub-Saharan Africa, one-third of employed young people will work in agriculture by 2035. This
number could decrease as rural youth seek employment in large cities. Their
departure from farms means fewer producers and lower food supplies for the
future.
But
agriculture can be an economically viable career for the next generation and
sustain food security. Public and private sector organizations must collaborate
with these young entrepreneurs to transform subsistence farms into profitable agricultural
enterprises.
