Gender equality is the final segment in
the IFDC blog series Six Pieces of the
Innovation Puzzle.
Rural women are the backbone of global farming systems but often
lack access to the same agricultural resources as men. Therefore, they tend to produce
and earn significantly less than male farmers. When women have equitable access
to land, fertilizer and seeds, they grow enough food to reduce the number of
hungry people by 150 million.
Empowering female producers to increase their income has profound effects on the next generation. Women spend increases in family revenue
on their children’s nutrition and education. With the proper tools and
knowledge, female farmers can guarantee food security for their household and,
in turn, their nations.
