Our latest blog in IFDC’s Six Pieces
of the Innovation Puzzle series focuses on climate change.
Climate change is
threatening global food security. Smallholder farmers –
who supply 80 percent of developing nations’ food – are particularly vulnerable.
By 2050, droughts could reduce the water supply in Africa by 20 to 50 percent, cutting yields by 15 to 20 percent.
Agricultural
innovation will help farmers prepare. Partnerships, such as the Global
Alliance for Climate-Smart Agriculture, promote farmers’ access to new technologies including
drought-resistant seeds, efficient fertilization practices, improved water management and crop insurance.
