Do you ever become harsh with yourself the moment you want something?
Like you’ll have the tiniest little flicker of a dream, or a longing for something, or an exciting idea…
and almost immediately another part of you arrives with a clipboard.
“Okay but how exactly would this work?”
“Is this realistic?”
“How much would this cost?”
“What if you fail?”
“What if people think you’re ridiculous?”
Honestly, sometimes we don’t even let our poor little dream sit down and take a breath before we start interrogating it.
I wonder if that’s one reason so many people slowly stop dreaming at all.
Because it's scary and exhausting to have to justify and explain every little longing.
Somewhere along the line we seem to have learned that if we let ourselves want something, we immediately have to change our whole lives and make it happen like a winner!!
And so obviously we don't let ourselves want much.
Because who needs THAT headache?
But maybe sometimes a dream isn't a whole action plan.
Maybe it's just trying to tell you something about yourself.
Do you know what I mean?
Maybe it's just reminding you of parts of yourself that have been shut down, or shut up.
And maybe it's guiding you to where you will be happier.
So maybe this week, if something inside you lights up for a moment…
don’t try to solve it immediately.
Maybe you could just sit beside it for a little while first and let it breathe.
Inside The Portal this month we’ve been having some really beautiful conversations about self-love, longing and learning to hear ourselves a little more honestly again. You’re welcome to join us whenever it feels right for you.
