Recently someone was telling me about all the things she was trying to do to look after herself.
She had quite a list.
Exercise.
Meditate
Eat well.
Journal.
Get enough sleep.
See friends.
Read.
Get outside.
All good things.
Except...
she wasn't feeling very looked after.
She was feeling exhausted.
“I just can't seem to keep up with all of it,” she said.
And there it was.
Her self-care had somehow become another list of Things To Do.
Another place where she was failing.
Another reason to feel she wasn't doing enough.
Ugh.
We slip into this so easily.
We find something that helps us and think...
I should do this every day.
Then we find something else.
And something else.
Until we have accidentally created ourselves a small unpaid job called Looking After Myself Properly.
But self-love isn't really about collecting good habits.
It's about knowing yourself and staying attuned to how you feel.
What actually helps YOU?
What leaves you feeling calmer?
Happier?
More supported?
What genuinely makes your life better?
And maybe...
that's enough.
You don't need to do everything that's good for you.
You need to learn what is good for you and when.
If I loved myself, what would I give myself permission NOT to do today?
This month inside The Portal of Permission, we've been exploring tiny acts of self-love and discovering just how powerful the little things can be.
If you're longing for a gentler way of caring for yourself, you're very welcome to join us.
If you're craving a gentler, less frustrated life, and you want a very practical way of looking after yourself better, come and join us HERE.
