As we pack our bags and head to Vegas for NAB and the Colorist Mixer, I'm reminded of an infamous NAB, 15 years ago. Blackmagic Design had just bought DaVinci, and the DaVinci Academy I set up 10 years earlier looked like it would be dropped. Warren and I got together and decided to pitch a new wider Academy, for all things colorist-related. We went to NAB with some postcards, lots of energy, and a willingness to share what we'd learned so far.
So International Colorist Academy 'iColorist' was born. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and has never waned. We've widened our scope, increased our instructors, but still have the energy. We stuck to our original ideas: all instructors have to be working professionals with connections to the manufacturers and their beta programs. We remain convinced that learning face-to-face - in classroom or via Zoom - is more effective than recordings without interaction. We love to stay in touch with all of you, our students past present, and future, so drop us a note anytime.
We hope to see you at the NAB Colorist Mixer, which I can now reveal will be held at Carlos'N Charlie's, inside the Flamingo Hotel on the strip. If you can’t make NAB, but are in and around LA afterwards, Warren and I are both running classes at AbelCine LA - we'd love to see you there - and Gregg will be teaching Video Calibration in Vegas.
Business in most places is recovering after some lean years, and we look forward to another exciting year in Post.
