Christ’s Commands in Action:

Henry Moorhouse

Love the Lord

How can we truly love God with all our heart, soul, and mind? What changes when we not only know that God loves us, but genuinely believe and abide in His love?

In this episode, we consider the remarkable life of evangelist Henry Moorhouse through the lens of what the Lord Jesus said is the first and great commandment: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind” (see Matthew 22:37). Once caught in a life of rebellion, gambling, and sin, Moorhouse was pursued by the grace of God, transformed by Jesus Christ, and became a passionate preacher of the Gospel.

Captivated by the truth of John 3:16, he proclaimed the love of God wherever he went and profoundly influenced D. L. Moody’s preaching and ministry. Moorhouse’s life reminds us that “We love him, because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19) As we spend time in God’s Word, believe His love for us, and draw near to Christ, may His love increasingly fill our hearts and overflow into a life of wholehearted devotion to Him and love for those around us.

Revival History Summit

January 21–23, 2027

Throughout history God has been faithful to bring revival to the hearts of His people. Remembering the way God has worked in the past inspires vision and desire to see Him work similarly in our day. In light of this, we are planning a Revival History Summit in Big Sandy, Texas.

John Van Gelderen will share impactful sessions chronicling the history of God’s working in the past. Dr. Van Gelderen has spent much of his life studying revival and will seek to give us an overview of revival history through the years, including powerful, specific stories of the Holy Spirit bringing a reviving to believers.

John Huffman will share engaging, historical first person interpretations of various men who were used of God as instruments of revival in the past, such as John Hus and Jonathan Edwards. There will also be meaningful prayer times. More than just history lessons, it is our hope that these presentations will stir your heart, build your faith, and motivate you to cry out to God, asking Him to move similarly in our day.

Message of the Month

Lessons From Lot

Scott Pauley

We are excited to bring a message to you by evangelist Scott Pauley titled “Lessons From Lot.” As Dr. Pauley relays the account of Lot’s life, he highlights the costly and unalterable decisions Lot made. These errant choices led his family down a perilous path. In contrast, Dr. Pauley points out how the compelling life of Lot’s uncle, Abraham, was the direct opposite in the decisions he made to serve the Lord.

The account of Lot and his wife is a sobering reminder of what happens when someone allows the world to capture his heart. The tragedy of Sodom was not only its wickedness but also that Lot and his family living there had so little influence on the city’s inhabitants. Instead of building an altar to God, Lot focused on building a life for himself. He sought logical and convenient solutions instead of spiritual ones. He ignored Godly counsel, distanced himself from spiritual influences, and made decisions based on what he could see rather than what God had promised.

So too, like Lot, our eyes can often lead us astray. However, faith anchors us in the truth that God’s ways are always upright, even when the choice is not the easiest path. May we, like Abraham, choose to live by faith and teach God’s truth to future generations. We can trust Him with every decision!

COMMAND OF CHRIST

Love Your Enemies

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?”

—Matthew 5:44–46

Can Christ’s love really overcome bitterness and transform even the darkest suffering? We reflect on the life of Jacob DeShazer as a powerful testimony to Jesus’ command in Matthew 5:44, seeing how the Gospel turned hatred into forgiveness and enemies into brothers. Captured, tortured, and imprisoned during WWII, DeShazer encountered Christ through Scripture, and the love of Jesus changed his heart from vengeance to compassion. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, he not only forgave his captors but returned to Japan to proclaim salvation, showing us that loving our enemies is possible only because Christ first loved us when we were His enemies.
