The Islamic Association of North Texas (IANT) sends its sincere sympathy and condolences to the victims of the deadly 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Türkiye and Syria and addresses how our organization will support relief efforts through financial and physical donations.

DALLAS (February 9, 2023) – In the early hours of February 6, 2023, a devastating earthquake struck Southwest Türkiye and Northern Syria, followed by hundreds of aftershocks. Tens of thousands have perished, and thousands more have been injured, with many missing. This record earthquake has resulted in a great deal of damage to property and life, especially at a time when heavy snowfall is occurring. Rescuers are racing to pull survivors from the rubble before they succumb to the harsh temperatures and weather conditions.

IANT Mosque in Richardson, Texas, is collaborating with several international relief organizations to provide financial assistance. In addition, our organization is working with delegates from the Consulate General of Türkiye in Houston to accept donations of physical goods to be shipped out daily via Turkish Airlines Cargo at DFW Airport.

In addition, we will hold a special prayer in honor of the victims on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. All donations collected this Friday will go towards earthquake relief efforts. Donations can be made online at iant.com/donate, via Zelle at donate@iant.com (and adding "Earthquake Relief" in the memo), or using the kiosks inside the Mosque.

IANT will also accept donations such as: tents, cots, winter blankets, thermal blankets, thermos and insulated water bottles, sleeping bags, flashlights, and batteries. New or unused winter clothes for adults and children, winter coats, raincoats, winter boots, sweaters, pants, winter gloves and glove warmers, beanies, socks, and underwear will also be accepted. For donations of food, please ensure they are nonperishable canned foods or ready-to-eat meals. We will also accept diapers, baby formula, bottles, and baby food. Healthcare products such as over-the-counter medications, personal hygiene products, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and first aid kits will also be accepted.
