Subject: The Sergeants Club | May 2023

Hello,

It has been a very busy couple of weeks here on campus! We are almost finished with the spring semester; Unit 68 advanced out of Basic Training last Friday, and Unit 67 will graduate 27 guys on Friday. Also, we have started a couple of major staffing transitions that will take shape over the next few months. Jesse Boulden finished up his last unit as Basic Training Commanding Officer, and will be handing that role over to Captain Daniel Hawley (Unit 46) starting with Unit 69. Captain Hawley is currently our 2nd Phase Training Officer and Missions class instructor, and he will begin the process of handing off both of those roles to Sgt. Dillon Whitaker (Unit 45) over this summer. We have also brought on the newly commissioned 2Lt. Claude Dean (Unit 58) as our full time Construction class instructor.

Today was a very significant day for ALERT, and it brings me great pleasure to announce the promotion of Jesse Boulden to the rank of Colonel. Now that he is finished as Commanding Officer of Basic Training, he is able to devote his full attention to the role of ALERT Commanding Officer, and this promotion reflects that change. Colonel Boulden is the first ALERT alumni to serve as Commanding Officer of the ALERT program, and the first alumni to reach the rank of Colonel. He has been with ALERT since he was a recruit in Unit 40. During that time he has served with Basic Training a squad leader, drill instructor, Senior Drill Sergeant, Executive Officer, and Commanding Officer, as well as Battalion Sergeant Major, 2nd Phase Coordinator, and Leadership class instructor. Since September of 2021 he has been filling both the Basic Training Commanding Officer and the ALERT Commanding Officer roles concurrently. Please continue to pray for him as he leads the men in training, directs the staff and officers, and oversees all training here at ALERT. And join all of us on campus in congratulating him on a well-deserved promotion.

Please also be in prayer for the 32 men who advanced out of Unit 68, and the 27 young men who are graduating from ALERT this weekend. Our prayer for each of the men who train here is that they would leave here with a closer walk with Christ, a deeper understanding of His grace and mercy, and both the desire and the tools to influence their world for Christ as a result of the training and knowledge they received here.

Posteritatis commodis servientes,

2nd Lieutenant Samuel Winkler | Unit 42
