Subject: The Sergeants Club | December 2022

I hope you all had a great Christmas, and Happy New Year!

As we wrap up the year I wanted to share some draft end of year reports with you all. Please note that the information is not quite final as we will not have a full financial picture of 2022 until mid-January when Finance finishes all their end-of-year reporting.

God has been very gracious to us this past year, and our donations are significantly increased over our 2021 totals. In 2021 we received $280,333.43 in donations, and of that, $10,254.25 was designated for the scholarship fund. So far in 2022 we have received just under $362,000 in total, with $40,000 designated for the scholarship fund, which is a huge answer to prayer. We are really excited about the increased donations to the scholarship fund in particular because we are trying to increase the amount of financial aid we give out. As we look at next year, we are hoping to start awarding a couple of additional scholarships categories, including some performance scholarships instead of only need-based scholarships like we have done to date. Please pray that we would use the money people have entrusted us with wisely, and that we would be able to offset the training costs for the men who need it most.

This is also a season of change for ALERT as both our Sergeant Major and our Senior Drill Sergeant are changing in 2023. SMaj. Matthew Moody finished his term at the end of the fall semester in November, and is staying on staff as our Dive program instructor. We had to pause our 3rd Phase Dive program while he was SMaj, so we are glad to have that program back on the calendar. The next Dive class starts in March, and we already have people planning to take it. SSgt. Seth Morris finished his last Basic Training as SDS with the advancement of Unit 67, and has returned home to PA for what God has next for him there. We are incredibly thankful for both of these men and the time, effort, and discipling they put in during their time at ALERT.

Moving into 2023, SSgt. Avery Whitaker is stepping into the role of Sergeant Major, and SFC Isaac Nelson will be receiving the silver cords as SDS. Please be in prayer for all four of these men as they move through this time of transition.

We are also continuing to work on hiring additional staff members next year to fill the holes in our officer lineup. The most pressing need is the Commanding Officer for Basic Training, but we also have instructor needs in various training options. Please pray that the Lord would bring the right man for each position and make that clear to everyone involved.

Finally, we are in the middle of a website redesign; Brooke Hendrich and I are deep into a complete rebuild of our website to make it easier to navigate and more effective at representing the ALERT program. We have hit some delays in the design and editing process, but the site is currently on track to launch just after the Reunion in January. I am planning on sending you all the dev site link in mid January so you can take a look at it and help us do final testing before we publish the site if you would be interested. Please pray that we would stay on schedule and that our work would improve the website and allow us to recruit more men to the program. We will also be putting together a 2022 Year in Review report with additional details on the past year; that should be finalized mid-January when our 2022 financials are completed, and it gets sent to all our donors. I will send you all the report once we get it completed.

We are excited about the momentum we have going into 2023, and look forward to another year of God’s faithfulness and love on display in the lives of the men here at ALERT. Thank you for your prayers and involvement this year, it has been deeply encouraging to all of us on staff. I hope to see you all at the Sergeants Club breakfast during the Reunion in January!

Posteritatis commodis servientes,

2nd Lieutenant Samuel Winkler | Unit 42
