Subject: Humanitarian Service Opportunity

November 1, 2023

Dear alumni,

I was contacted by Cpl. Peter Janowski (Unit 30) about a unique humanitarian need in the West Bank. As you know, Israel was attacked by Hamas on October 7, and Israel declared war on Hamas shortly after. At the time, Peter was in Israel working with the organization HaYovel which was assisting the settlers in different Jewish communities with the fall grape harvest. Due to the attack, HaYovel has a dire need for men to help serve in the many logistical and non-armed security tasks in the West Bank as they help with Operation Ittai. Details on their current efforts are available here.

We obviously cannot deploy our battalion or staff to meet this need, but I offered to let our alumni know about the need, and connect them with HaYovel to see if any of our alumni can be of assistance at this time. They are looking for up to 20 men who can provide supplies and unarmed security resources to the local municipalities and residents, and need a commitment of 1 month from each man.

Here are some additional details and requirements:

  • There is space for up to 20 men

  • Deployment length of 1 month

  • Room and board is covered by HaYovel

  • You would need to purchase your own flight to Tel Aviv, Israel

  • Must be an ALERT alumnus

  • Hard working

  • Preferred military/law enforcement background and/or drone operators

  • You are recommended to bring flashlights and tac vests if possible

If you are interested in more information on this humanitarian service opportunity, or would like to apply to volunteer, visit their website here. The volunteer application is available at that link.

Please note that due to the increased need, they are accepting individual volunteers outside the posted trip dates/details. Also, please be aware that the situation is fluid and the opportunity may have to be adjusted as a result. For up to date information on the situation on the ground, please reach out to HaYovel directly.

Forge on!
