May 20, 2025

As I have worked with young men in Basic Training over the past few years, I have often observed a mentality towards training that considers the only benefit to be gained by training is what you have to show after the training is complete, whether that be a new opportunity, certification, or skill.

We often overlook or undervalue the lessons and experiences gained from training. The most significant benefit of training may not be what we acquire but who we become. The greatest blessing I received from my time in training here at ALERT was the focused investment and real-time feedback into my life and character. Intentional training penetrates beyond the surface and helps you to see who you are, what you are like, where your joy and trust are anchored, and what sort of influence you have on others.

So don’t shy away or try to run ahead of the training God places in your life. And don’t forget to look for and learn from the lessons He has for you.
