When I think of the word service, the first thing that often comes to mind is responding to disaster-stricken areas after a significant storm and helping people clean up their homes. But as I have spent more time in leadership roles in ALERT, I have realized that the more important and often more complex aspect of service is in the everyday normal or mundane tasks that connect us with people.
I think of Jesus, who met people where they were with a needed word, a moment of time, a caring rebuke, or a tender touch, time and time again.
So it isn't so much about where we serve, but about how and why we serve that changes both ourselves and those we hope to help. |
