One of the best parts of my job at the ALERT Academy occurs off campus and outside of major events, such as Advancement Day or Graduation. It occurs later after the students have graduated and moved on. I get to be part of important moments in their lives, like weddings, the birth of their first child, or college graduations. Being there for those events reminds me that what we do here really matters and has a lasting impact.
This past quarter, I had the opportunity to be a part of two different weddings of previous ALERT men. These moments feel like mini "ALERT Reunions"—times to reconnect, encourage one another, and remember that "camaraderie strengthens a man." We need each other—not just during intense training like the 24-Hour Endurance Hike or Saturday Inspections, but throughout our lives. |
