Subject: ALERT Communiqué | Hurricane Harvey Relief

Dear friends of ALERT:

Many of you have called and inquired about ALERT’s potential involvement in assisting with victims of Hurricane Harvey. The nature of the flooding and ongoing weather conditions, road closures and liability reasons have not allowed us to venture directly into the Houston area. We felt it was best suited for those closer to the scene that are more familiar with accessibility to the area and better prepared and equipped for water rescue. Continue to pray for those involved this recovery. As you have seen on the news it is a massive undertaking. Several former ALERT men that reside locally are down there performing water rescues from both boat and air as we speak. Pray for their safety.

Having said all that, we will be deploying today with Samaritans Purse to begin recovery efforts in the Victoria, TX area, west of Houston. Presently there is no power, limited fuel, and minimal places to buy food but we are trusting God to send along co-laborers in the area to help support us in those area. We will also be taking supplies not only for ourselves but to help workers who are ministering to others.

The question has often come up: “What can we do to help?” Let me make several suggestions:
  1. Pray earnestly for all these victims. Especially pray that this would be a time when they cry out to God not only for provision but for salvation.
  2. If you would like to make a donation specifically for disaster and deployment work you can designate it and it will be earmarked for such. It is very likely we will be making a number of trips to southeast Texas in the months ahead to help with recovery. Your gifts will cover all transportation and related costs for such deployments. Any gifts not designated would go to our general fund.
  3. Consider a gift to Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Relief. We have been networking with them for a number of years and they have blessed us greatly by providing housing, meals, equipment and work orders, making the logistical end of our deployments run seamlessly.
Thanks so much for your ongoing interest in the Lord’s work through the ALERT ministry. Pray that we would have boldness in sharing the gospel with homeowners we serve. At ALERT we desire to “Forge extraordinary men who will influence their world for Christ.” There can be no greater influence or impact made than seeing others come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

God Bless you all,
