Subject: ALERT Alumni Update | October 2022

October 26, 2022

Dear Alumni,

It has been a busy few weeks here at the Academy! We are wrapping up another year of training and forging, and only have a few weeks left till the men leave for winter furlough. Unit 67 will advance on Friday, November 11th, and Unit 66 will graduate on Friday, November 18th. We always love having alumni back for both Advancement and Graduation, so if you are interested in joining us for either event, please come by.

We have had some great Alumni interactions over the past few weeks, and I wanted to highlight a few of the guys who made an effort to come back and reconnect with the present student body.

During Family Camp this month, the ALERT Sergeants Club sponsored an alumni bonfire. We had a really good turnout at the event, with alumni from Unit 15 through Unit 66 and their families attending.

Sam Kelly, Unit 49, spent a week in the “wilderness,” training Unit 67 in survival skills during Survival Week.

Keon Pendergast, Unit 1, and Rob Grey, Unit 12 were able to make it out to campus and spend some time with the men in Basic Training, sharing their experiences and testimonies with the men.

John Saucier, Unit 16, Isac Dymesich, Unit 19, and Eric Dymesich, Unit 25, each had either a son or younger brother in this current unit and were all able to join Unit 67 on their Endurance Hike. In total, we had Units 16, 19, 25, 40, 50, 53, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, and 66 all represented either hiking or working logistical support for the hike.

We are trying to increase the opportunities for Alumni interactions with the men and staff for a couple of reasons:

  1. You guys bring perspective and wisdom to the table. You’ve had life experiences long after your time at ALERT that can be invaluable to both our students and our staff.

  2. You guys are the reason we are here. We stand on the shoulders of the faithful men before us. If we can encourage you guys that the work you put in years ago continues, then we would love to be able to do that.

  3. You guys can help keep us accountable. You can help us see things from the outside to ensure we stay true to the heart of the mission and vision.

  4. You guys are a huge encouragement to us. It’s always great to hear about what God is doing in your lives.

If you would like an opportunity to share with either Basic Training or Battalion in the future, want to join us on future events, or want to stop by for a visit, please do not hesitate to reach out and let us know.

A couple of closing notes:

Remember that we have the next ALERT reunion here in Big Sandy on January 27-29, 2023. We are close to finalizing the speakers and getting the schedule announced, so keep an eye on our social media accounts and weekly emails for more details. I hope to see a bunch of you here in January for the reunion.

Finally, our Missions class is heading to Mexico for almost two weeks next month to serve on the ground with a local missionary. Capt. Vanderford will be leading the eight man team. Please be in prayer for the men as they serve across a cultural and language barrier, and pray also that the trip would be a time of spiritual growth for the team as well as those they minister to. If you would like to contribute financially to this deployment, you can donate here. Please make sure that you designate your gift to the ALERT General Fund and put “Missions Class” in the notes.

Thank you for your support and prayers, and let us know if there is any way we can be in prayer for you.

Job opportunity in the Sacramento, CA area

We are a small test lab that spends about 60% of our time doing mechanical / vibration / thermal testing for clients ranging from trains to ships to medical devices. About 40% of our work is for our parent company that does fluid control for the private space sector. We are looking for another good technician. Having a technical background (i.e. auto-shop, aviation, A&P, etc.) is helpful but not necessary. Having good character, a desire to work diligently, and integrity are necessary. We can provide the details of the technical side in training. If interested, please contact Daniel at the information below.
