Subject: ALERT Alumni Update | May 2025

May 29, 2025

Dear Alumni,

This last quarter of ALERT life has been anything but normal. Not that ALERT life is ever "normal," but the added complications of the measles outbreak and all the domino effect of that certainly made for a less-than-ideal training quarter. With that being said, we are at the end of it, and God has been faithful. Last Friday we advanced Unit 72, and Lord willing tomorrow we will graduate Unit 71 out of 3rd Phase. Thank you for all the support and prayers over the last three months!

Over the last two months, I had the opportunity to be a part of two different ALERT guys' weddings. Both weddings were micro ALERT reunions, and I was struck once again with the bond that ALERT can create. More than that, I was reminded that ALERT is so much more than just Basic Training, or Advancement Day, or Graduation. It's a lifelong opportunity for mentorship, discipleship, and friendship.

One of the best parts of my job is not just being there on ALERT guys' Advancement Day, but being there long after that for these pivotal moments in their lives as they become husbands and fathers, and lean into influencing their world for Christ. That is where you can see the real impact of the work that we do here at the Academy.

I am really excited to be able to announce that we are relaunching ALERT’s Fire Academy this fall, and registration is currently open. For all the course details, or to register, please visit the website: https://alertacademy.com/fire-academy.

Finally, please keep the Swetnam family in your prayers. Two of their sons, Benjamin and Joel went through Units 36 and 40 respectively, and both have since passed away. Joel passed away in 2013, and Benjamin just passed away this month. We will be adding his nametape to the Memorial Wall, along with all of the other alumni who have passed away this year, during the Memorial Wall Ceremony at the upcoming Reunion in February 2026.

Forge on!
