Subject: ALERT Alumni Update | March 2025

March 25, 2025

From one quarter on to the next! As you all know, there is never a dull moment here at ALERT. We began our new training quarter last week with 33 men training in the Battalion, and Unit 72’s R-Night was yesterday—lots of growth potential, but also lots of potential for things to go wrong. Please pray for all of our men in training this quarter, especially the recruits in Unit 72 as they start their adventure with ALERT.

I was giving a Bible study to the Battalion last week and realized that some of the men in the room were born in 2007. Seeing that I came through Basic Training in 2008, it's only a matter of time until the men who come through ALERT were born after I attended Basic.

Why do I bring this up (besides to make you guys feel older than you already do)? Because this demographic of young men has grown up in a very different world than I did. Different challenges, different inputs, different cultures, different levels of temptation etc. Challenges like these are why we need wisdom as we train this next generation of ALERT men. But here's the good news that I am holding on to: the struggles might be different, but the root cause is the same, and therefore the solution to those struggles is the same. That's why I firmly believe that only the Gospel of Jesus Christ truly can transform a man, and why I believe in what we're doing here. So pray with me that real transformation would continue to happen here over the next eleven weeks of training.

One exciting alumni development over the last quarter has been utilizing our Alumni in our Wednesday night impact meetings with the Battalion. It has been a great way to reconnect with guys after they leave, and tap into their wisdom and expertise in instructing the current student body. Thank you to Steve Dankers (Unit 2), Josh Tanner (Unit 3), Tim Falkenstine (Unit 39) and Ryan Ludvigson (Unit 40) for taking the time to come out this last semester and invest in our guys in this way. If you are interested in speaking to the men on a Wednesday evening, you can reach out to Captain Winkler (swinkler@alertacademy.com) to see about getting on the schedule.

Finally, I wanted to remind you all about a couple of alumni perks. No matter how hard we advertise the ALERT program, our alumni are hands down the most effective recruiters for ALERT. The majority of men in training each year are recruited in part by our alumni network. As a way to say thank you for sending guys our way, we have a $100 alumni referral bonus for the alumni who recruit each man who finishes Basic Training. If your name is on his application as the individual who influenced him to come, you'll get a $100 check from ALERT (unless multiple men are listed, in which case it is split between all the alumni). There is no limit to the number of referral bonuses you can get, so if you recruit hard enough, you could use the bonuses to pay for your next third phase.

Also, as alumni, you are eligible for a day of room and board free every year. Our goal with this is to help you out if you're passing through and need somewhere to crash, or make it easy if you'd like to come back and visit or show your family around. The free night of room and board isn't applicable on either end of a training quarter or around campus events like Family Camp or the ALERT Reunion, but the rest of the year you are welcome to stop in and say hi, and we'll cover housing for the night and a day of meals. You can contact the office with questions, or to reserve meals or housing under the alumni policy.

Thank you all for your prayers and support as we forge men for the Kingdom!
