Subject: ALERT Alumni Update | July 2025

July 14, 2025

Dear Alumni,

We are only three weeks into the semester, and things have been unpredictably busy for the men in the battalion.

We scheduled a deployment for the men in their second week of training to head to Arkansas to assist in tornado relief efforts, and right before they left, Kerrville, Texas, was hit with catastrophic flooding.

The men got back to campus last Thursday, and we sent them back out today to head down to Kerr County, TX, to work with the Kerr County EOC on their search and recovery efforts. Capt. Whitaker (Unit 45) and Lt. Moody (Unit 57) are heading up the team as the OIC and XO. We expect the men will be primarily assisting with body search and recovery efforts, however, the area is continuing to experience flooding and they may be reassigned to other recovery efforts. Please be in prayer for the Battalion during this time.

Deployment Opportunity to Kerr County, TX

Many of you have asked about joining us on deployment to Kerr County, and as of now, per our point of contact at the EOC, we are not able to take extra men at this time. That may change once we start work, so we will keep you posted.

With that said, there is another opportunity for recovery/debris removal efforts the following week, headed up by another alumnus who is coordinating food and lodging. The organization he works with will hopefully begin operations next week, and they can take up to 20 men. If you would like to be added to this standby list for deployment, please get in contact with Capt. Winkler at swinkler@alertacademy.com, and he will add you to this ERU list for a possible deployment next week. You will have to provide your transportation and gear.

A week and a half ago on July 3rd, Anders Johansson (Unit 13) was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. Thank you to all the Alumni who made the effort to attend. This is always a good reminder to continue in prayer for the families of those Alumni who have passed away.

Finally, just a reminder that we are relaunching ALERT’s Fire Academy this fall, and registration is currently open. For all the course details, or to register, please visit the website: https://alertacademy.com/fire-academy. Register by July 28 to receive the $100 Early Registration Discount.

Forge on!
