Subject: The work day is really tomorrow! We'd love to have you! 🔨

Dear Hot Metal Bridge Community,

This Sunday we'll hear the story of the Ascension, the very last time the disciples will physically see the Risen Christ before being sent out into the world on their own (ok, ok, next week the Spirit comes, but that's spoilers...).

My favorite line in the story is Acts 1:11, where angels show up right after Jesus has ascended and ask, "Why do you stand looking up to heaven?" I love that the messengers of God don't want the disciples to waste any time. The call to discipleship is not to simply look up for answers, but to gather and work and discern together.

I hope you join us on Sunday, not simply to look up, but to look around and notice that even if God is not here in the way we might like, God is still at work in and through us.

In Christ,
Pastor Erin

WORK DAY - FOR REALZZZZZ Saturday, May 20, 10am-2pm.

We will REALLY gather to build a shed and install our new community fridge, clean stoves, and do other needed spring cleaning around the place! Join us! Lunch provided and all skill levels welcome and needed!

Sanctuary: Art + Honors

"Sanctuary: Art + Honors" is a LGBTQIA+ art show and a celebration of safe spaces that we're planning for this fall, September 2023. It will run for a full week in our building! (Call for artists will start in June if you're interested.)

Additionally, we're kicking off the show by bestowing the Sanctuary Award (yes, we invented it) on another local organization to honor their work in creating safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ individuals in the Pittsburgh area. For our inaugural year, we will be honoring BikePGH! Proceeds from the event will support both Hot Metal and BikePGH.

The plans are underway and the wheels are turning, but we need a few more hands on deck. Could you help us out by joining the steering committee? We meet online monthly, and there will be concrete tasks between meetings that we'll delegate; so you can help out as little or as much as you are able. These are the areas you can get involved in:

  • Art Show Logistics & Artist Relations

  • Sponsorships & Fundraising

  • Promotion & Publicity

  • Administrative & Behind the Scenes

If you are willing to join the Sanctuary steering committee, either sign up here or let Pastor Erin know. Our next meeting is May 10 at 6 PM.

Spring Nurturing Group: My Body is Not a Prayer Request: Disability Justice in the Church

April 18-June 20

Join us on Tuesdays at 8pm via Zoom (Sunday Worship Link), as we read a chapter a week from Amy Kenny’s  My Body is Not a Prayer Request. We’ll ponder together the invitation to listen to voices of disabled people, and to construct a robust theology and practice of justice.

Order the book here (or at your favorite bookstore!): https://bookshop.org/p/books/my-body-is-not-a-prayer-request-disability-justice-in-the-church-amy-kenny/17894168?ean=9781587435454 Let Pastor Erin know if you need financial assistance or for her to order the book for you!

Be Present at PRIDE!

Our congregation is a proud participant in LAMP – LGBTQIA+ Affirming Ministries of Pittsburgh. We are excited to again celebrate Pride in Pittsburgh this summer. While there are many Pride events sponsored by different groups and in different neighborhoods around the area, the two Pride events LAMP will be participating this year are: Pittsburgh Pride March and Parade coordinated by QBurgh on behalf of TransYouniting and the Pittsburgh Pride Group on Saturday, June 3 in Downtown and the North Shore. We will also participate in People’s Pride PGH March and Festival on Sunday, June 25 in Swissvale. Keep lookout for more details that are coming soon.
Come out and celebrate while we share God’s love with all God’s people!
