Subject: The Bike-a-Thon raised over $3,000!

Dear Hot Metal Community,

By now you should have received an email earlier this week announcing that I will be taking another job and transitioning away by the end of August. That letter is attached here.

While I know that this announcement will evoke a range of emotions, I hope that our next month together will provide plenty of time for processing and closure. Council is hard at work making plans for the transition and beyond to make sure this community is well cared for, and I'm confident in their leadership!

But this Sunday, I hope we are able to lean into a feeling of celebration as we welcome Elizabeth Nicole Towne, daughter of Ben Towne and Yeimi Pena (aka "Elizababy"), into the promise of baptism!!! As Elizabeth will experience the waters and joy of God's belovedness, we each get the opportunity to remember that we too are included in those promises and vision of a world brought into God's unending love. We'll hear some of Jesus' kin(g)dom parables from Matthew 13, offering us different opportunities to imagine what is possible in God's reign.

I hope you will join us so you can add your voice to welcoming little Elizabeth into Christian community, and to support Ben and Yeimi in their continued work to parent her toward awe and wonder of God's grace and love. We'll have cake too! See you Sunday at 10:30am.

Peace,

Pastor Erin

MEAL TRAINS

One way we care for our community when we are in need is by offering meals. Please take a look at these two opportunities to show up for one another:

The Kendall-Morris Family, as they continue to welcome Tobias Vincent Kendall-Morris into their family! - https://mealtrain.com/zkqo56

THANK YOU!

Thanks to all who made our Bike-A-Thon a success! We had a great time riding in the sunshine, eating delicious food from our new friends at the Little Free Food Truck, and being in community! We also raised over $3,000! Thank you for your generosity! Special thanks to Joni and Luke Watson for all their hard work coordinating and bringing this fun event to life!

Reminder: Congregational Meeting on August 13th

As part of the Presbyterian process for a transitioning pastor, we will have a brief Congregational Meeting on August 13th after worship. Attendance in person or on Zoom is acceptable.

Sanctuary: Art + Honors

 - SPONSORS WELCOME: If you or an organization or company you know believe that everyone is worthy of love, respect, and safety, we invite you to support a celebration of safe spaces through the work of LGBTQIA+ artists. The need for places of refuge only grows as queer individuals and families are increasingly targeted by culture-wars.

With your organization by our side at this upcoming event, we are sure to make a bold statement that Pittsburgh is brimming with sanctuaries dedicated to the safety of LGBTQIA+ people. CLICK HERE for more information - https://www.sanctuarypgh.com/sponsors

- CALL FOR ARTISTS - OPEN JUNE 15 - SANCTUARY invites visual artists in the LGBTQIA+ community (including allies!) to submit 1-3 pieces of work for a week-long exhibition at Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community in celebration of sanctuary spaces in Pittsburgh and beyond. The Calling for the Repair & Reconciliation Alliance and its Support Teams

The Executive Committee of the Pittsburgh Presbytery at their May 2, 2023 meeting approved the following charge to be given to the newly-created Repair & Reconciliation Alliance in support of the Black Presbyterian Churches:

  • to engage in a thorough review of the experience of these congregations through history and

  • to offer recommendations on actions of repair and reconciliation

This charge is given so that the Pittsburgh Presbytery may become a more harmonious, joyful, and just community within the Body of Christ.  The Alliance is expected to report regularly on its progress to the Executive Committee, completing its work within two years.

Three informational gatherings will be held in July for any member of Presbytery who has questions, comments and a desire to learn more about the Alliance and the work of the Support Teams.  On the application form there is an opportunity to register for any of the gatherings, or contact rlowe@pghpresbytery.org.

  • Thursday, July 13, 7:00 PM via Zoom

  • Sunday, July 23, 3:00 PM at the Presbytery

  • Wednesday, July 26, 9:00 AM via Zoom
