Pumpkin Spice Liturgy: A Meal Under the Harvest Moon // TONIGHT @ 6:30PM // Main Hall //
A lunar celebration of the seasons and four directions? Isn’t that a
bit… pagan? All the best Christian rituals are. In our modern day
Christianity we’re largely out of synch with the
natural world, but the very early traditions of our faith are deeply
entwined with earthy roots. On this night we’ll celebrate creation and
Creator. Our journey through the four seasons (from our Western
perspective, anyway) will also be a journey through four practices:
winter & contrition, spring & blessing, summer & enjoyment,
autumn & generosity. The meal is potluck and VEGETARIAN so bring
something harvesty to share. Contact lauren.wolcott@gmail.com.
Leadership Nominations // thru OCT 29 // Every year we gather nominations for folks to join the Council, Finance Team, Compassion Team, and Personnel Team. It's an opportunity to affirm the giftedness of others or even to put yourself forward as someone who will put time, energy, creativity and thoughtfulness into the leadership of our church. Click here to learn more about the process and to make nominations.
Trunk-or-Treat // TUES OCT 31 @ 5:30PM // parking lot &
main hall // We need three things
for our annual tradition: 1) donations of candy 2) LARGE cardboard boxes
to use for building the haunted maze. Like REALLY big. Think
appliance-sized. 3) YOU and your decorated vehicle on October 31 to
distribute candy! Bring donations to HMBFC thru Sunday, October
29! Email becky@hotmetalbridge.com.
Middle & High School
Youth Group //
THIS SUNDAY @ 9:30AM // 2nd floor // Youth
group (grades 6-12) meets on the 2nd and 4th Sundays for
Bible study and discussion (use the Jane Street entrance). We are also planning
volunteer opportunities around HMBFC (like The Table) and the Pittsburgh
community. Contact Erica at ericajharding15@gmail.com.
Healing the Hurt Conference // SAT NOV 4 // Jeron X Grayson Community Center // Hatred
is rampant. Ignorance is blatant. Bigotry seems sanctioned. But truth
is still real. So, where can we come together to talk about what is
really the root of our divisive issues? JUDAH Fellowship will host
Healing the Hurt: Intersections of Oppression, Pathways to Liberation. The vision is to provide an atmosphere of growth, dialogue,
and learning around issues that are rarely approached; the hurt, harm,
and disconnect between the church and marginalized communities. We will
address issues around race, gender, sexuality, bigotry, misogyny, and
many of the other socializing realities that are points of contention
that have historically and systematically caused confusion, bigotry, injustice, and misunderstanding.
