Subject: Introducing Candace and Victoria! (Exciting Event Opportunity THIS Saturday)

Dear Hot Metallers,

Last Sunday I shared with those gathered the good news that Tim and I are having a baby, due to enter the world at the end of July! We thank you for all the well wishes and congratulations, and are excited to have such a wonderful community around us as we navigate this new change in our lives!

This Sunday's reading, Matthew 17:1-9, is a story about change. We call it "The Transfiguration" because the presence of God makes Jesus' face shine. But the thing that changes is the disciples' hearts and their deepening understanding of who Jesus is and what Jesus means for God's plan for the world. They are able to see Jesus literally in a new light, and therefore see the whole world differently.

Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, where we officially begin the season of Lent, a time set aside for us to look at the world and God and ourselves in a new way. We'll prepare for this season this Sunday by gathering and asking God to transfigure our hearts through worship, wonder, and nourishment.

In God's peace,
Pastor Erin
Get to know Candace and Victoria!

Candace // Children's Minister
Candace is a California native who moved to Pittsburgh after graduating from University of California Santa Cruz. She has worked in some form of children’s ministry since 2008 and she is passionate about being a light in the lives of all God’s children (Whether or not they are actually still children)! She would be happy answer questions and get anyone plugged in to volunteering with the kids on Sundays.
Candace will officially join our staff in March!

Victoria // Table Ministry Coordinator
Since graduating from Penn State University in 2004 with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies, Victoria has worked in human service positions, primarily with families with young children. She first set foot in Hot Metal to help serve a Thanksgiving meal when the church first moved to 2700 Jane St. Not long after that, she began attending services.
With 30 years of past food service experience, it came natural to begin preparing Sunday meals as needed and help out with the Table meals on occasion. Victoria has also helped to keep Homeless Ministry stocked with needed supplies. She views food as her love language and looks forward to the opportunity to continue in service to others in the role of Interim Table Ministry Coordinator.

What else is going on at Hot Metal??
Ash Wednesday is THIS Wednesday, February 26th.

Rich Heritage of African Americans in the Presbyterian Church //
THIS SATURDAY, February 22 at 1pm at Bethesda Presbyterian Church
African Americans have been an integral part of the Presbyterian Church since 1807 with the founding of First African Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia by Rev. John Gloucester. Leaders such as Rev. Samuel Cornish, Dr. Edler Hawkins, Dr. LeRoy Patrick, Elder Thelma Adair as well as Pittsburgh legends including Dr. James Robinson, Dr. Henry Highland Garnet, Dr. Harold Tolliver and many others have made invaluable contributions to the denomination. However, in the age of "Diversity and Inclusion" some of the rich heritage of African Americans have gotten lost. Come to remember the rich heritage of African Americans in the Presbyterian Church and be inspired for the future. Register online at www.pts.edu/richheritage
