Subject: FIX ME GOD -Step 7 Worksheet-Hope for Recovery

Step 7- Humbly Asked Him to

Remove Our Shortcomings

HERE IS A SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE STEP 7 WORKSHEET

By the time you have gotten to step 7 you have done a lot of hard and heavy work and research seeking to weed out those character defects that have hindered your goals and hopes and dreams in life.  You have more than likely figured out that you aren’t so good at fixing things on your own and it just might be a good idea to get a little help in the matter.

None of us have everything figured out with God. Who or what is a “higher power anyway?” This is a theme throughout the 12 steps and this course. The key to this step is in understanding that there is one who can do  “exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think according to His power that works in us” (Ephesians 3:20  NKJV) Unless we believe that we will be forever stuck in the cycle of insanity doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.

So with the work done in the previous steps, being “entirely ready to have God remove these defects of character” it is time to do so.  Like was suggested in last week's lesson, this is a process and it is important to be serious about which things you are truly ready to surrender to the care of God. You may have identified many things that need to go on the scrap heap of coping mechanisms and character defects but this is where you are ready and willing to let God remove them.

When I was writing my book and working these steps something came to mind and this poem always brought me to tears when I was trying to let go of something, someone, or some dream. Here is the poem and a song that goes along with the steps I wrote this one and if you get the book on your email you will find this one called “Letting Go of Broken Dreams” and it has an added poem that is not in the hardcopy of the book but it speaks to this dilemma we face.

BROKEN DREAMS

As children bring their broken toys

With tears for us to mend.

I brought my broken dreams to God

Because He was my Friend.

But then instead of leaving Him

In peace to work alone

I hung around and tried to help

With ways that were my own.

At last I snatched them back and cried,

"How could You be so slow?"

"My child," He said, "what could I do?

You never did let go."
