Subject: Some Song Critique insights that you might find helpful

Hi Friend,

Here are a few things that keep coming up in the Song Critiques that I thought I'd shed some light on to polish up your next mix.

1. Vocal level not right - The best way to get the vocal level balance right is to put it into the mix as soon as possible. That means right after the bass and drums. This way you'll build the mix around these elements so the balance will be maintained, as well as the power of the mix from the rhythm section.

2. Clipped song intros - If you edit your mix right on the downbeat of the song, it might get clipped off when the exported mix is played back on a streaming service. The best way to fix this is to leave a few milliseconds of space (called a "handle" - I leave about 5ms) before the song starts.

3. Clipped song endings - Don't clip off your endings! The best way to avoid this is to turn the level up pretty loud and listen to the fade (even if it's just reverb decay). Use headphones if you can't turn the level up loud enough. Set the end point at the spot where the total silence begins. For more details, watch the Secret To Smooth Endings video in the Editing Tricks Of The Pros mini-course (it's been updated if you haven't watched it in a while).

I hope this helps.

Looking forward to your submission on the next Critique.
