But first, TODAY’S TIP:
Do you ever have a problem with your mix sounding great on your speakers, but not holding up when you go to your car or earbuds?
Let’s look at an easy way to make your mixes translate to different systems better, and it's a technique used every day by the A-list mixers.
Before you call your mix complete, turn it down to a whisper level (if you can do it on some small computer speakers, all the better), low enough that if some tries to converse with you they're drowning it out.
Believe it or not, this level will allow you to actually hear your final balances better. All of a sudden, you’ll hear some mix elements that seem to jump out of the mix, while others disappear.
Put them in the proper balance at this SPL level and you’ll find your mixes will translate much better to other playback systems as well. Simple, right?
