The Responsibilities and Rewards of Parenting
Friend, have you noticed that there's a ton of talk these days about how to have an extremely successful career while being a parent?  In fact, I saw a recent article that talked about getting lots of support by hiring more people to take care of the kids - and making up for the parents being absent much of the time by taking an extra vacation each year.  I found this depressing.
I feel like there's something missing from the discussion on this topic.  Namely, the benefits of being an engaged parent.  We're constantly focusing on what parents have to give up in the workplace when becoming parents (and how to arrange our lives in a way where we give up very little), yet we ignore the vast benefits of parenting.  Pretty sad, right?
Becoming a parent is a choice that comes with responsibility – responsibility to raise a human being.
Today, I talk about two things.  First, that if you choose to become a parent (and make no mistake, this is a choice we make), then there's a responsibility that comes along with it.  Second, that parents should start focusing on the benefits of being a parent - because it will change our view of our lives for the better (and may change the way we juggle our jobs/careers and our parenting duties).
