Hi Friend,
You may have heard of juices being promoted as
being quite healthful. But in truth, most are not. And even the good ones are
often misused by health fanatics. Here’s my quick take on vegetable and fruit
juices so that hopefully you can steer clear of their pitfalls.
When fruits or vegetables are juiced, their fiber
is removed and discarded. And fiber’s important to your health. It enables your
body to efficiently move wastes and toxins out of your body. It also slows the
absorption of carbohydrates from what you ingest.
Consequently, when you consume fruits and
vegetables with their fiber removed (juices), their carbohydrates are rapidly
transferred to your blood. That spikes your blood sugar level—which will come
crashing back down along with your energy level shortly thereafter. So if you
consume a juice by itself (without plenty of high fiber or high fat food) your
blood sugar and energy levels will be destabilized.
That’s also why it’s a mistake to consume
nothing but juice for days. Without fiber or anything else to keep wastes
moving through your intestinal tract, toxins will back up in you.
And that’s why I generally recommend that if you
drink a juice, it should be with a substantial meal.
There are other issues with juices, though. You
can get a good dose of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes from a cup of fresh
juice. So that can be an effective way to boost your nutritional intake. But that’s only with fresh, unheated, non-pasteurized juice. Most
bottled juices are far from fresh. Much of their enzymes and vitamins have been
lost. So consuming a pre-made juice won’t do you much good. V8? No, mate.
(Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)
I hope this was of some insight or benefit. If it was, let me know!
