My big brother survived a heart attack ! two actually! i am so grateful and relieved he made it. He is 6 years older than I am, when i found out I was shocked and concerned. Then later it struck me -the selfish part , you see if you saw the both of us on the street you would have a hard time telling us apart, except for some remaining blonde hair vs brown hair, we have the same body style and are obvious brothers. So this was a 6 year alarm bell going off for me! My brother has blazed many a trail for me and I have been blessed to have had his footsteps to follow. (even when he teased the crap out of me it made me stronger.) But this path …sorry bro, I just do not want to go down.

Maybe you have someone in your family with a history of heart disease or diabetes?

So i took it seriously and started searching for answers. I found a few surprising things that make amazing sense to me. Here they are and I hope anyone who reads this finds it helpful.

One is Sleep- you have to get good quality and ample sleep- it seems that the lack of it will seriously effect your health, this makes complete sense. Our brain and body need the “down time” to rebuild and replenish. And recently I have heard modern workout gurus claim it’s even more important than exercise. (yipee! I can do that )

But the number one factor for having a long life, this was the real shocker -it is social connections, social interaction with not only close, trusted friends and family but even more important- face to face human interactions with Anybody! the person that makes your coffee, the mailman, the cashier ….yup we humans are hard wired to be social beings, we dominate over other species because we had tribes. we are not stronger, faster, or have sharper teeth, what we have is trusted friends and associates that watched each others back. We could gang up on any threat and over come it together. And so quite literally the most important factor to surviving a long time as an individual is honing and maintaining social interaction. Turns out to be backed up by science -the hormones and chemicals the human body produces during face to face interaction do amazing rejuvenating things. Studies show that folks that keep this area of life active live significantly longer (into their hundreds) There is a TED talk “the secret of living longer may be your social life” - search on google and go check it out .

This last recommendation is for people like me and my brother that need some “first aid” to fight off the stubborn belly fat and other symptoms that go with it, (namely heart disease) before it is too late. I could hardly believe this simple 2 minute ritual that this couple discovered in Europe. This was after a heart attack and forced landing on a vacation trip that was almost a tragic disaster. click the link for the dramatic story of this guy’s father in law and check out the so called “secrets”. I have been using them and it is making a difference.

 2) Get some good sleep - consistently.

3) Makes more friends -real humans -not chats, messages, and social media posts.

 AND LIVE A LONG TIME!!!
