  QUESTION: CAN GUIDED CHAOS EVOLVE?

Q: "
Within the combat sports such as boxing, muay thai, wrestling, judo and brazilian jiu-jitsu the competitiors and the moves and tactics they use to achieve a given outcome are rapidly evolving. It would take a lot of time to provide specific examples of this in each sport however if you need me to provide such examples to answer the question adequately I will. A quick example I can use is in MMA competition. The competitors have evolved a lot since UFC1 in terms of athletic ability and that athletic ability effects how proficiently they are able to perform the techniques.

In addition, with time they have found new setups into moves and new moves in general. In general the practitioners have evolved in each of the combat sports. My question for you is how do you think
that relates to guided chaos? Do you think the principles will evolve?
Do you think guided chaos will continue to evolve in how well practitioners in the future can apply these principles? Do you think the next generation will be able to apply these principles more efficiently than the previous generation of practitioners.

I have a hunch you will respond by saying how could the principles of balance, looseness, sensitivity, and body unity evolve, it's simply how the practitoners will evolve within these principles of fighting. I would go so far to even state that the practioners of these others arts are simply getting more efficient at applying these principles as the principles are the foundation of martial skill in any art form be it boxing, muay thai, wrestling, judo and jiu-jitsu. However I'm still interested in if you believe there will be an "evolution" in guided chaos even if it's simply more younger naturally athletic people who will eventually join
and be able to apply the principles in a more athletic frame. Thoughts?

This is a weird question I know but it popped into my head after listening to an interview with Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach John Danaher. As always in advance thank you for the response."

ANSWER BY GM JOHN PERKINS:

That is a good question and one that I ask myself constantly...It is not the principles that evolve but the translation of those principles.

In GC we are primarily concerned with surviving forceful and heinous attacks...These can be attacks where there is a preamble such as a measuring up of a victim by a predator or predators or a sudden brutal deadly onslaught by evil scumbags intent on your demise...
From Attackproof Companion Part 1 DVDThis is not something that is dealt with in sportive arenas...The model of MMA or Traditional martial arts are not equipped for this type of chaotic often instantaneous violence.

If you are thinking of GC as a sportive art you are going to be let down...Yes I know that most of the practitioners are playing at a competitive version of GC all the time...Eventually this is where the EVOLUTION has to develop...That is the Evolution of the mind of the practitioner of Guided Chaos....Spontaneous explosive unbridled action which is balanced, efficient and in some cases, deadly effective must be of utmost import in the mind of the GC student and trainers as well.

Yes a younger, stronger, faster person will make all the movements that a human being can manifest become also more effective if given the chance to develop...That is my hope...One cannot forget that GC is not created only for the elite athlete but for anyone who wishes to develop his/her own mental, physical and spiritual qualities.

For example: I had to fight more than one attacker some of whom were armed and naturally athletic with almost no warning...It was not because I was a good athlete that I was spared a mutilation or death...It was from keeping an open mind to the possibility of sudden violence and having developed not only more balance, sensitivity, body unity and looseness but a mental framework that allowed me to operate outside the framework that allowed me to survive and later teach from that viewpoint.

No matter how great an athlete a person is when suddenly attacked from one of more directions his/her mental attitude and perception of surroundings is more important. In other words you can be Bruce Lee and still get jacked up if you are not alert....Now we still have the sportive mindset to deal with....Here is where Guided Chaos principles help to develop a better MMA fighter or martial artist...No matter how you slice it, knowing and developing the main principles of GC will enhance any martial art or sport for that matter...You can become a better tennis player or skier when applying the main principles.

Will Guided Chaos evolve by the addition of more gifted athletes...Maybe...But here is a thought...Some of our most physically gifted students had to work around their basic ability and not let their athletic muscular driven basic response be the most important element...If that were all it was then these students would have been able to laugh at what I was teaching them. I remember one in the beginning that had the most talent but not the most experience. Do you think he would have trained for so many years if he could just beat up an overweight shorter slower man such as myself at the outset?

The great part of having our most athletically gifted students is that we can further develop our response to movement that will always evolve to newer and higher standards...We who are not so gifted must work with these type of folks in order to deal with the basic street criminals and even worse, trained enemies who are out there waiting to pounce. Remember: A serial killer doesn't have to be an athlete to put women and even strong men under their power...So simply relying on athletic prowess is not the answer but training folks of all physical and mental levels is what causes the constant evolution of Guided Chaos.

I feel that working with the most frail and sensitive students and trainers like our women is another avenue for evolutionary development...I look forward to having a whole bunch of warrior poets teaching this art in the future...We have them here with us now...There are so many of our members who have gifts to share and some who have fought in the streets and battlefields or survived deadly violence of other sorts from which we can learn to heighten our own understanding and application of the basic principles.

And if your own goal is to become a better teacher and broaden the scope of Guided Chaos teaching to include sportive training then that is all good. The one caveat I have to express is this: Once you work from a sportive view and must have required responses to required attacks and defenses then your ability to learn unplanned adaptive movement may be dulled. You must train for both. This is where Guided Chaos Combatives uses both planned responses allied with the development of the principles of GC which enhances even the planned situations....BUT!!!...Don't ever let your mental guard down for the Reality of Mortal Combat.

"This Ain't Your Daddy's Iron Palm Bag!"

  GUIDED CHAOS™ BRANDED SLAMBAGS

Develop accurate, crushing, hand power for strikes and gouges

"As soon as I began using it, I was HOOKED! ...I have long practiced grasping/striking activities against heavy bags and using different hand grips - round balls, piston push grips, etc. However, the Slam bag supersedes ALL of these in my opinion. It does it ALL and more. Just passing it from left to right hands and clawing it - either sideways or pancake style helps create strength and coordination...I even surprised myself at how overwhelmed I was as soon as I started using it." --David H. Smith, Student of Professor Bradley Steiner

Instead of "toughening" your hands with a typical iron palm bag and possibly developing painful arthritis as well as thick, ugly, useless callouses, why not turn your hand strikes into "smart bombs" so that all your chops, punches, gouges, rips and tears explode with devastating crushing power and dead-on, free-form timing and accuracy! (The most overlooked qualities in hand weapon development).
The Guided Chaos method of strike training using Dropping Force greatly improves hand strength, timing, balance, and sudden impact power while simultaneously developing your tissue and tendon strength without creating ugly and useless "makiwara" callouses. Get your tough, tan, double-stitched cowhide SLAMBAG with the GC logo hot-branded on both sides and start hitting like a jackhammer.

KILL THE ENEMY:
Close Quarters Combat
for U.S. Military Personnel

"The Kill the Enemy video is the greatest work of modern combat of our time!
In the dirty bloody world of real combat there are no second place winners. In combat there is only Kill and come home. John trains you for just such an encounter. There is nothing in the world that can ever prepare you for the harsh cold reality of combat, but John Perkins has found a way to bridge the gap between school and real world no-holds-barred REALITY!"
--Captain Jonathan Edwards, 101st Airborne/Air Assault

POLITICALLY INCORRECT
HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT...?

In 1989, the RUSSIANS instituted a hand-to-hand combat methodology that far surpassed ours in terms of SIMPLICITY and EFFECTIVENESS. Ironically, it was nearly IDENTICAL to the system OUR military used--BACK IN WORLD WAR II!! WHAT HAPPENED?!!

Through a political process too convoluted and distressing to elaborate on here, over the years, our soldiers' hand-to-hand training has become convoluted, mis-directed, and relatively ineffective except under "sportive  or "competitive" (i.e. unrealistic) conditions.

KILL THE ENEMY is a simple video guide that does away with the boxing-grappling-locking nonsense that has become the "politically correct" standard of training for our soldiers in recent years. Instead of subjecting our military personnel to methods that could get them killed, Master Perkins and Lieutenent Colonel Ridenhour USMC provide basic, effective methods proven in World War II. Distilled from Part 1 of our book ATTACK PROOF, these strategies (Guided Chaos Combatives) are the basic tools that John Perkins' Guided Chaos builds upon. Topics include:

  • Comparison: US vs. Russian Hand-to-Hand Training
  • The Myth of Grappling
  • Defensive/Offensive Posture
  • Basic Hand Strikes
  • Bag/Dummy Training/10 Seconds of Hell
  • Wrestling the Rifle
  • Covering Your Back
  • A Fantasy Knife Fight
  • Rear Choke Scenarios
  • Ground Fighting Fantasies
  • Conclusion: History Doesn't Lie!

The difference is that we're better at it--as well as defending against it, because both require Sensitivity and Adaptation--something we train exclusively.

YOUR INSTRUCTORS:

GM Perkins
Former forensic crime scene expert
John Perkins:

Perkins has trained in Native American "Anything Goes" fighting principles since the age of 5. Over a period of 20 years he combined it with experience gained from over 100 extremely violent arrests (where people routinely ended up in the hospital or morgue), unsanctioned pit-fighting, World War II Close Quarters Combat, the internal aspects of tai chi and the ancient Greek combat art of Elephtheri Pali. In 1978, he formally created Ki Chuan Do and the principles of Guided Chaos [in1998 he officially changed the name of the art itself to Guided Chaos]. Unlike the "fight-by-the-numbers" self-defense methods popular today, the Groundfighting component of GC is probably unlike anything you've ever seen before.

Lt Col Ridenhour
Iraq and Afghanistan combat veteran
Lt. Col. Al Ridenhour USMC:

Infantry unit commander and instructor of unarmed combat, he is also a Guided Chaos Master. Security Manager, Assistant Operations Officer, and the Anti-Terrorism Force Protection Officer for the II Marine Expeditionary Force in Iraq. Blitz magazine article on Guided Chaos Australia Seminar
"
Let me start by saying I thought I'd seen all that the world of 'reality-based self defence' had to offer, so for the easily bored out there, I'll cut to the chase. What I witnessed on the weekend of 26 and 27 March is the closest thing I've come across that resembles a modern-day, reality-based martial art and not just another 'combatives system'. Does it work? Hell, yeah! I got my arse well and truly kicked and at times felt like I was in the middle of a Jason Bourne fight scene."
--Clive Girdham, former Senshido and Geoff Thompson instructor [excerpted from the exclusive review of the Guided Chaos Australia Seminar in the Aug. print edition of BLITZ MAGAZINE: Australia's #1 Martial Arts magazine volume 25, issue 6

"Guided Chaos is the only training in my 15 plus years of Corrections that translates into real world application, period."
---Bob Miller, Corrections Officer at the largest facility in Oregon

"Guided Chaos is the only thing that has worked for me in real life situations. Unless you are 6'3" and 285 lbs of muscle, most of the Defensive Tactics stuff (ok all of the Defensive Tactics stuff) will get you hurt. And even if you are that big and strong, there is always someone bigger and stronger and there may be a lot of them. Nothing like dealing with one guy and it turns into a free for all with all his buddies. This is where you literally need to 'adapt or die' and Guided Chaos is the only training in my 15 plus years of Corrections that translates into real world application, period.

"If I had to pick only one martial arts system in the world it would be Guided Chaos..."
--Dr. Robert L. O'Block founder and publisher of the American College of Forensic Examiners International, American Board for Certification in Homeland Security

"...through watching videos put out by attackproof.com, and by
reading Attackproof, the book, I have learned real survival skills.
These skills have been learned...at an exponentially higher practical
yield-per-hour training rate than any other martial art classes or
seminar I've ever attended, or ever even heard rumor of."
--Matthew Shoener, Police Officer, Scranton, PA

"The Companion Video Part One is stupendous!
A godsend of detail for out-of-state practitioners."
