YOU CAN SURVIVE:

  ASLEEP, ATTACKED IN BED,
  WOMAN FIGHTS OFF SERIAL KILLER
  AND LIVES TO TELL
CBS' 48 HOURS MYSTERY THIS SATURDAY

  Another day, another serial killer.

On the next 48 Hours Mystery on CBS, three beautiful young women were attacked
in their own homes
and brutally murdered. A 4th survived.

Imagine being roused out of a deep sleep by a knife being plunged into your body.
This young woman immediately got her feet up in the attacker's face and kicked
savagely. Stunned by the sheer ferocity of her counter-attack, the psychopath fled
her home mumbling "Sorry..."

Granted, it would have been better if he had never been able to gain access
to a properly secured home in the first place. Motion sensor lights, alarm, dog,
reinforced bedroom door, backed up by a shotgun and cell phone.

But when it comes down to it, you need to have the tools and the mindset
to fight hand-to-hand if you have to. You CAN survive.

There are simple strategies you can begin to put in place RIGHT NOW
to help you Fight for Your Life.

  YOUR QUESTIONS:
IS THERE GRAPPLING IN GUIDED CHAOS?

QUESTION:
I watched the video #23 Adaptive Defense: Why Lethal Striking Alone is Not Enough to Save Your Life.
Something there made no sense. Col. Al talked about
"grabbing the head and ripping it out of the socket". How
would this possibly work against a bigger, stronger opponent? (unless he
was already disabled, in which case other strikes would seem to work
better) I have never heard of neck twists and controlling the head in the
context of guided chaos. It looks like grappling to me.

ANSWER:
This is LtCol Al. thanks for your question.  You get the award for observing something that is not always apparent in our videos, but something that we demonstrate and do all of the time in our classes and in our seminars.   You caught me so now I’ll have to reveal what’s behind the curtain.

I’ll try to answer your question in the clearest most unambiguous manner possible so please bare with me.  This is going to be long but necessary.

If you listen near the end of the video I believe I do clarify the point that while the things that I am doing “appear” to be like grappling moves, what they really are, are vicious neck breaks, strikes and the like.  They only appear to be controlling moves or manipulations for the purpose of the demonstration.  These are what we refer to as “Finishing Moves” however unless you have some degree of skill in Guided Chaos they are difficult to demonstrate even at moderate speed without someone getting seriously injured.

Also we do teach certain controlling techniques to our Law Enforcement students however this is not something we necessarily want out there in the general public (no sense in confirming for the bad guys what we teach our Law Enforcement students).  Also police officers have rules they have to follow so resorting to crushing someone’s throat outright is not necessarily an option.  However for the average citizen you are under no obligation to control anyone if you think you're going to die.

There are many things that we do in Guided Chaos and things we are capable of doing that seem to not only contradict what we preach but seem to defy conventional logic.  Let’s just say that the bag in Guided Chaos is “very deep” and there are things that we teach in class or during our seminars that are not in the book or even on DVD, partly because there is no adequate way to convey the information without having direct contact with a person.

The truth is there really is something to Karate, Kung Fu and yes even grappling.  Unfortunately the type of grappling or Karate etc… that people are accustomed to is the sportive fighting that passes in the mind for many as self defense which is a dangerous fallacy that probably will not go well for you in a real fight.

For example, we teach people as a rule not to grab or grapple with an attacker.  Much of this is predicated on the fact that most people just do not develop their bodies and skills enough to make these things work under high-speed chaotic conditions (thus the importance of the Contact Flow exercise).

Nor do they train to properly deal with a potential attacker producing a weapon, multiple attackers, you name it, where grappling goes right out the window. However, in Guided Chaos. for those who have felt this from some of the more advanced practitioners, we will pull your arm out of the socket and we’re not talking just dislocating it but tearing ligaments and tendons.  Now your arm won’t come off but as my students often hear me say, “I can assure you it’s not for a lack of trying”.  (Yeah, it will be that ugly because we’ll mean it).  I know this may sound like BS but trust me as I found out you need only to feel this once under high speed conditions to know how brutally possible this is.

For example we have students that are immensely powerful and large yet many of our instructors are able to make the very techniques you witnessed on the video work on them simply because no matter how large you are your head is still your head.  Obviously this is dependent on one's ability and that of the attacker but that is true of any fighting system.

Also notice (which is hard to see sometimes due to the camera angles) that I am still striking to the throat, neck etc… as I enter “off line” (i.e., unavailable yet unavoidable like the matador in the bull fight).  In other words I don’t just “walk in” especially against a much larger or stronger attacker--that would be suicide. It is because of the principles of Guided Chaos that we are able to do things that people don’t think are possible.

For example, one criticism we hear often referring to the Drop Strike is, “you cannot generate the necessary striking power to injure someone without turning or rotating your hips…” and on it goes.

The truth is, “No, Mr. Know-it-all-smarty-pants, you can’t but I can because I train in the proper principles to do it”.

The problem is how do you say that to people without sounding arrogant?  The answer is you can’t because unless they feel it for themselves no matter what you say they will never believe it.  You’re just in their minds another martial artist spouting hyperbole about your mystical chi powers. However one thing you will notice that while there are many critics of Guided Chaos “no one” who has felt the art first hand, not “observed it” but felt it especially at the hands of a seasoned practitioner has any doubt as to its effectiveness.  But I digress.

Now understand something and I usually don’t talk like this but I owe you nothing less than the truth here.  One of the things that truly separates 'the why we teach, what we teach and the how we teach' is the concept of “Ruthless Intention”.  You see, no matter what we teach a person, if they don’t have the “Moral Will” or “Ruthless Intent” to carry through during an attack even in the face of possible injury or death, they may not be able to make it work if it gets really ugly.  Sorry but eye strikes and hitting to the throat only work if you’re willing to actually strike to the eyes and throat with Ruthless Intent (you can’t get a little pregnant here) as well as train to defend your own eyes and throat.

To put it bluntly we’re not fooling around so if I have to fight to keep from being killed myself, one of us is going to be injured the other will be killed and whatever happens in between is fair game.   If that means opening your skull on a fire hydrant, ripping your eyes out, twisting your head around backwards or dismembering you “literally” then so be it.  Remember: geting into any fight is senseless unless you think you're going to be killed. Then it's kill or be killed.

I do not say these things lightly but as a matter of fact as to where our mind set is on these things.  Now you understand why we have the philosophy of not going around challenging people just for an ego boost or whatever.  Many of us are too old for games with mouths to feed and bills to pay and have no patience for engaging in mindless battle.

For us a fight is an all or nothing proposition with no guarantees and if we have to go there someone is giving up the ghost and consequences be damned!  In other words if you attack us you had better be sure otherwise in the blink of an eye when you wake up you may find yourself breathing through a tube in your neck for the rest of your days.

In closing what I would recommend for your own development is if you have an opportunity to get to one of our seminars it would really be worth your time.  For those who have attended them they quickly see that what is available in the books and DVD’s merely scratches the surface.

I know this was long but your question was a great one, I’m sure there are going to be others who have the same question.  Please feel free to contact us with any other questions you may have.

Thanks and take care.
