I'm not making this up.
Last week, I was crossing the street and a car hit me.
Physically.
It knocked me to the ground, and if it had been going much faster, I probably wouldn't be writing this email.
The last eight days have been a blur of police, doctor's appointments, physical therapy, x rays, and dealing with attorneys.
Thankfully, nothing was broken and I didn't hit my head. I’ve even been in the gym.
Honestly, it’s a miracle.
But here's the interesting part...
My hip took the impact, and while it's out of alignment, it doesn't actually hurt.
Instead, I’m feeling weird sensations and pressures in my knees, back, and neck.
My physical therapist explained that because my hip is no longer where it's supposed to be, the rest of my body is compensating. Muscles are working differently. Joints are under pressures they've never experienced before.
The pain is showing up somewhere completely different than where the problem actually is.
Honestly?
It reminds me of the work that Nate and I do with school owners in the Founder’s Forum.
School owners come to us with problems or things they want to “fix” in their business. They tell us how they’ve been attempting to fix them.
Sometimes they're right.
But often... they're not.
That's why, before we ever coach someone on marketing, hiring, delegation, or growth, we have them complete an exercise called **The Four Questions**.
It’s an inventory of their goals and obstacles… plus what they’ve tried so far.
Almost everyone thinks they're being specific.
They're not.
A client will write something like, "I want to grow my studio," and I'll send it back.
Or they'll say, "I want to teach less," and I'll send it back again.
Not because they're wrong...
Because they're still describing a wish instead of a blueprint.
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that you can't intentionally build a business from vague goals. The blueprint has to be specific enough that it tells you what to build next.
And once people become that specific, something fascinating happens.
They start seeing connections they never noticed before.
The pain wasn't where the problem was.
That's exactly what Nate and I are going to work through in next week's free workshop.
