| | | Dr. Dawn Bowdish Receives MSU Community Engagement Award
Congrats to Dr. Dawn Bowdish on receiving the Community Engagement Award at the 2019 MSU Teaching Award Ceremony. Dawn was granted this award in recognition of her ongoing community involvement, which includes the coordination of science-based youth outreach activities, talks with various community groups, and "donor appreciation days" for her research participants. Dawn was further recognized for her commitment to Lung Association - Ontario, with whom she helps organize initiatives to raise lung health awareness and money for lung research. Dawn was nominated by her PhD students Jessica Breznik & Dessi Loukov and Prof. Carl Richards, and presented the award by her undergraduate student, Danny Ma. |
| CARD Update - March 2019
The Comprehensive Antibiotic Resistance Database has been updated. This update includes Prevalence, Resistomes & Variants expansion to 82 pathogens (with the addition of Brucella abortus, B. ovis, B. canis, and B. mellitensis), 81,000+ resistomes, and 173,000+ AMR allele sequences based on sequence data acquired from NCBI on February 28th, 2019. | A Demystifying Medicine Seminar by Health Sciences 4DM3 Students

In this Demystifying Medicine and Knowledge Translation event, 4DM3 students will present examples of their work during the 2019 winter semester. Each group will showcase and discuss how they created short videos aimed to enhance the understanding of various complex medical and scientific topics. This free event is open to all and refreshments will be served.

| Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences Seminar Series - Dr. Jean Lim

Dr. Jean Lim is Associate Professor of Microbiology & Co-Director of the Microbiology Multidisciplinary Training Area at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She will be presenting a seminar called "Dengue, then Zika: a one-two punch” at April 16th's BBS Seminar Series. Here, Dr. Lim will evaluate how dengue virus immunity alters the pathogenesis of Zika virus in mice, and infection of Zika virus in human tissue based models.

Dr. Henrichs is a Professor in the Microbiology & Immunology Department at the University of Western Ontario and is set to give a lecture called “A new link between metabolism and virulence potential in Staphylococcus aureus”. The CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity is looking to fill three positions on its Institute Advisory Board (IAB), as part of the CIHR 2019 IAB membership renewal cycle. While recruiting for those positions, the Institute is looking at filling gaps in the Board membership. Therefore, they encourage you to apply if you are:
- an early career investigator
- a virologist or microbiologist
- a researcher in health services, or in social, cultural, environmental, and population health (pillars 3 and 4)
- a community representative.

| Post-Doctoral Fellow or Research Scientist
IIDR member Dr. Zeinab Hosseini-Doust is looking for a postdoctoral fellow or research scientist to conduct phage display experiments including library construction and screening for high affinity binders, and troubleshooting technical problems. Qualifications include a PhD in Molecular Biology or related field and experience in Molecular Biology. Required Skill Set: Experience with RNA isolation, RT-PCR, cDNA, and Molecular Cloning, construction of cDNA libraries, DNA sequencing, bacterial and/or yeast expression and purification of proteins, strong organizational, documentation, and record keeping skills, and observational and troubleshooting skills.
