Holiday Fest!
Featuring Photos With Santa

This Friday Dec. 4th from 3:30 - 7:30pm the Beaumont Business Association is bringing you our annual Holiday Festival on Fremont Street!

We at Green Dog will be hosting "Santa Paws", an opportunity to have your pet's photo taken with Santa! Between 4:30 and 7:30pm Santa will be at Green Dog. We'll be asking for a voluntary $10 donation to the Pongo Fund food bank for pets (cash or check), or of course the purchase of a bag for our food drive would count as well! (see more below).  You can sign up for a time slot by e-mailing Katie Wilgus at Katie@eventsbygather.com

Other activities on the street:
- Look for Santa and Mrs. Claus roaring down Fremont in a Portland fire
truck at 3:30pm, arriving at Grand Central where they will be taking
pictures with children from 4:00pm until 7:30pm (Note: children's photos with Santa are at Grand Central, pet photos with Santa are at Green Dog)
- Paperjam Press will be hosting a card-making station in their shop
- Peak Mortgage will have a “reindeer food” making activity
- Umpqua Bank will have a craft making station
- Amenity shoes will be offering 20% off all regular priced items, and will be serving hot cider and cookies
- Dee’s Golden Door will have a fun Rudolph bean bag toss, and will be serving drinks and snacks
- Silhouette will have an ornament making station and will be offering 20% off all clothing and jewelry
- Students from Beaumont Middle School treating us to holiday music! Umpqua Bank will also have music at their location

bill of $25 or more. *Offer excludes happy hour and take out.

***This year Fremont Holiday Fest will be hosting a canned food drive for the Oregon Food Bank. Bins will be located at Sands Solutions, Umpqua Bank, Paperjam Press and Grand Central Bakery for the entire month of December.

YES! There will be a Secret Sale in December. Stay tuned for that announcement soon!

Great Gift Ideas!
Ruff Wear Haul Bags!

We are in love with this bag! Ruff Wear sells it with the intention that people will use it for carrying their dog's gear on outings, and that is a fantastic way to use it. However, it's about the best travel bag for people we've found in a while. Ruff Wear makes sturdy, practical, stylish gear. This wide-opening gatemouth bag gives you full access to contents. Interior and exterior zippered and mesh pockets keep gear organized, and an ID sleeve displays important information. It's my favorite bag for myself when I travel, as I can fit so very much into it, it's easy to root through it because of its big wide opening, it fits easily in an overhead bin, and I know that years from now if something fails on it that they'll stand behind their product! Check out how many things I fit into my bag - lots of clothes and a big pile of goodies for my friend's dogs. And, I know that Ruff Wear really makes gear that lasts and that they'll stand behind it if anything goes wrong with it. What a cool gift as a weekend bag that also doubles as very stylish dog gear for dog lovers on the go. Check out this link, which has loads of great photos.

Kitty Blocks and Slabs!!

Don't miss out on what we think are the greatest items in the store for cats! KittyBlocks are solid sturdy cubes of corrugated cardboard. They're the perfect size for cats to want to sleep inside and they can really dig into it to scratch, both inside and out. The KittySlab is a big thick flat slab of corrugated cardboard.

The troubles with regular cardboard scratchers are that they aren't heavy enough to stay put when scratched, and they're not big enough to comfortably hang out on. The KittySlab is big and heavy, and can be leaned up against a couch to create a legal scratching surface that blocks access to the furniture or laid flat for lounging. The flat surface is great for cats that tend to scratch carpets or other horizontal surfaces like the back of the couch.

The troubles with traditional cat furniture are that the shape cannot be changed when they grow bored with it, and when they've destroyed the scratching surfaces, the furniture cannot be recycled. KittyBlocks can be stacked and rearranged. Otis has a stack of two in the livingroom (he loves to sleep inside them, sit on top, and stretch way up and scratch the sides, and they look cool), and in the basement TV room is a collection of old ones that he's scratched up already but still make great climbers and toys. We can rearrange them for playtimes into new shapes like a big tube to run through. Check out the mega stack in the photo that one customer has made for her two kittens! The best thing is, when it's time to retire them, you can easily recycle them!
Of course, if your cat takes one look at it and says no thank you, we'd take them back, but I'm pretty certain that's not going to happen. Cats love these things!!

Ceramic Bowls!

Gosh it's been such a long time since we've had ceramic bowls in the store. You'd think that would be an easy item to find, but we're not that excited about bowls made in China. We found bowls made in places like Colorado, but by the time shipping for these heavy fragile items is added, they are just so expensive. Finally, we've found two local artists who make bowls right in our neighborhood! Both artists have very different styles, and we're so happy to have their work in our store. These are all one of a kind and make a unique and beautiful gift.
Chirpie Chews!

Looking for a treat that your dog loving friends haven't ever seen before? These sure will spark some conversation, and they're actually awesome treats that we're excited to have. They're made with cricket protein!!
These innovative grain-free treats are made with sustainable cricket flour which is super healthy for the environment and super healthy for dogs. This treat that uses Cricket protein (yes, the insect) is a first of its kind in the pet world.

Why Crickets?!?
  • Crickets are higher in protein, iron, calcium and amino acids than other livestock proteins
  • Crickets produce less greenhouse gas and ammonia than protein sources such as cows and pigs
  • Crickets require much less feed, water and space than normal livestock
  • Crickets are one of the most sustainable and environmentally friendly food sources; people across the world eat them as part of a healthy, daily diet.

Not only that, but dogs are crazy for these things! They're super soft; in fact, I think you could use them as a pill pocket alternative. They smell nice to people, and the flavor is knocking the socks off of lots of dogs that try them. In fact, word is spreading in the training and show worlds, and we've had customers coming in to buy handfuls of them because they're using them as bait for competitions and training!

Pongo Fund Food Drive!

Every year we hold a food drive for The Pongo Fund pet food bank, a remarkable organization that provides pet food to low income and homeless pet owners. They provide good quality pet food to those with food insecurity, thereby keeping these pets out of the shelters and with the people that they love. We'd be hard pressed to top last year's drive, as with your help, we were able to donate 11,000lbs of dog food, but I'd like to see us try! Here's how it works:
We're selling a 30lb bag of Nutrisource Chicken and Rice dog food for our cost, which is $34.99 (no profit made by us). Then, we'll match each of your donations pound for pound. Not only that, but our distributor, Animal Supply, will match one bag for every 12 sold, and Nutrisource will match one bag for every 12 bags sold. There's also a good chance, if there is adequate supply in the warehouse when we finish the drive at the end of December, that these bags will actually be 40lb bonus bags, instead of the regular 30lbs. Keep your fingers crossed for this. That would really make the total # of pounds donated skyrocket!
Please consider calling or stopping in and buying a bag this month and help this fabulous cause.

Thank you to everyone who donated to Feral Cat Coalition's "Season's Feedings" Cat Food Drive in November. Customers donated 278 pounds of cat food which we matched, making a grand total of 556 pounds! These donations will help feed hungry cats and offset costs for those that take the time to trap and transport feral cats for spay and neuter surgeries.
