We love this time of year, as it seems to draw a lot of old regulars out of the woodwork that have moved away or don’t currently have pets and are holiday shopping for their friends, etc. We love to reconnect with these friendly faces who choose to come on in and support our store when they can. We also meet a lot of nice folks that have never been to the store and are out exploring while they’re Christmas shopping. If you’re one of these folks, we’re so happy to meet you! Welcome to our newsletter - we'll offer a number of Secret Sales throughout the year just for you, our newsletter subscribers, and we'll let you know about fun events in the neighborhood and in our store. What a strange holiday season, don't you think? Usually we have a full week after Thanksgiving in November to transition into holiday mode, but this year there are really only 3 weeks of "shopping season". We know everyone is feeling rushed from the Thanksgiving table right to the holiday parties! How do we find time to bake cookies and shop for presents? We know there are so many of you that make a special effort to visit us for your pet supply needs, which then keeps the money you spend in the local economy. Please consider donating a bag of food during our annual dog food drive,
which is going on through the whole month of December! Here’s how it
works: You add the cost of an 8.8# bag of Pulsar Chicken
($14.99 our cost) or a 25# bag ($36.99 our cost) to your purchase at the
register and in the new year, we’ll make a big order and have it
delivered right to the Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank warehouse. This food
will go far to help keep dogs with their families when their people are
challenged to find food for themselves, keeping more dogs with the
people they love and out of the shelters! Thanks to the makers of Pulsar, for every 12 bags purchased, 2 more will be
added. Let's make it really add up!

These Portland made cat wheat grass kits are cleverly crafted out of upcycled cat food cans, and encased in a hand knitted cozy made with scrap yarn pieces that aren't big enough for bigger projects (these can be a cute cozy for pillar candles when you're done perhaps). This grass grows quickly and easily (shown here on Day 6) with enough growing material and seeds for 4 rounds of grass.

In our opinion. this is honestly one of the best things in the cat section. Cats love paper bags to play in. They love hidey-holes and crave novelty and enrichment in their lives. In addition, they enjoy stuff that's a little loud and crinkly when they're playing. This has all of that! The remarkably tough, thick paper tunnel comes in a nifty flat shape that's easy to wrap and to ship, but it pops open to this fabulous 3-foot tunnel. Even when our Otis belly-flopped onto the top of it, it just popped right back into shape. Reviews are always positive from customers about this fun cat enrichment toy.

We Have Lots of New Beds!
A sale is a great time to pick up a new dog bed!
Pendleton: Gorgeous new bolster beds and crate pads have joined our crowd-pleasing Pendleton bed collection. Washable, cozy and gorgeous Pendleton patterns are assembled and stuffed in the USA with recycled soda bottle fluff.
Molly Mutt's Sheepy Beds: Also new to the store are Molly Mutt's wool-stuffed dog beds. It's rare to find bed stuffing made entirely from natural materials, and wool is a fabulous choice. It's sourced sustainably from California sheep, it's warm in the winter and cool in the summer, it's naturally antimicrobial and chemical free, it's washable, and will last for a lifetime.

Fluff And Tuff Holiday Toys!
Fluff and Tuff are without a doubt our favorite stuffed toys for dogs (and for people - they're all so darned cute)! They also seem to be every dog's favorite baby, and we often get photos of our customer's dogs with their favorite ones. There are so many cute animals like sloths, squirrels, fish, and foxes. Of course there are always dogs who can shred anything you give them, but these toys seem to really stand up better than any other soft toys we've found, due to an inner mesh lining that helps to resist tears. Their holiday toys this year are super cute - look at Ivy the Alpaca in her cute winter scarf! Every year they have a charity toy, and this year it's a 10" Green Bone embroidered with the words, "Good Dog". 100% of Fluff and Tuff's profits from the sale of this toy will be donated to help purchase food for dogs in need. |

We’re so excited to have our 2nd annual PDX Pet Calendars for sale for the holidays! 12 months of adorable photos are from photo contests run by our coalition of Portland Independent Pet Shops. Each of the stores will be donating the proceeds from the calendar to a local rescue of their choice. Last year we were collectively able to donate over $4000! Sales from Green Dog’s calendars this year will go to The Cat Adoption Team.
