Better yet - if you bring clean, usable pet supplies that we can donate to local rescues, we'll increase your discount to 20%! Crates, blankets, towels, leashes, collars, Gentle Leaders, no-pull harnesses, stainless steel bowls, clean usable toys like Kongs, good quality unopened cans or kibbles, training treats, training treat pouches, etc are all welcome.

| | Congratulations Are In Order!
We are very pleased to announce that we have promoted two of our wonderful employees to the position of co-manager!! Melissa Neill has been with us for 5 years. She came to us with 5 years of dog experience working at a doggy daycare in SE, as a dog walker at Doggy Business, and also as an independent pet sitter. Sarah Spromberg has been with us for 2 1/2 years, and she came to us with 7 years of experience in various kennels, dog daycares and animal shelters (including one in Australia). She recently also earned a certificate in Holistic Nutrition (for humans).
We are coming up on our 13th year in business and Mike and Christine are feeling a little fatigued. We still will be working quite a bit, as we love what we do, but we're making it so that we will no longer be essential personnel for opening and closing the store (we even have a vacation planned for this year!). These ladies have already proven themselves with an exceptional knowledge base, an impressive work ethic, and a real love of and dedication to the animals that come into the store. In a recent interview, Nick Offerman recently discussed the concept of "Gumption". He said, "People with gumption can see the work that needs to be done and they get to doing it". Nothing can be truer about these two, and it was high time we recognized them for it. We're grateful to them and to all of our amazing hardworking staff. Please join us in congratulating Melissa and Sarah when you see them next!

Scratch Lounge!
It's no secret that we're also big cat people here at Green Dog. Here's another fantastic cat thing that is fabulous for multiple reasons! First of all, we know that it is a very rare cat that isn't seemingly magnetically drawn to cardboard boxes (check out the leopard to the left), and that corrugated cardboard scratchers are often a cat's very favorite thing to scratch. Meet the Scratch Lounge, a box perfectly designed for cats! It is the perfect size; big enough to sleep in but just small enough to be pleasantly snug, which most cats love to be. There are good corners to rub their faces on. The first time we brought one home for Otis he was practically in it before it hit the floor. It's manufactured in the USA and is made of 100% recyclable materials. It's impressively long-lived, as it's made with thick sturdy corrugated cardboard on the sides and the bottom, and each of the pieces can be flipped and rotated as they start to scratch it out. New Foods from Champion Foods!
(makers of Acana/Orijen)
The new "Heritage" line of Acana is in, and it has 3 flavors (Free Run Poultry, Freshwater Fish, and Heritage Meats (beef and pork). The best news is that the price points are a little better than the rest of the Acana line!

| | No Hide Chews Come in New Flavors!
Woo Hoo! One of our favorite new chews for dogs (No-Hide chicken chews) is now available in 2 new flavors, beef and salmon!! We don't carry rawhide due to safety concerns, but these are a nice rawhide replacement that the company says is 100% digestible (they have studies to prove it). They are made in the USA with Agar Agar and humanely raised U.S. meats for flavor, and have been remarkably long lasting for most customers that try them (outlasting bully sticks for most). They've also come out with a new size - 11" for all three flavors (also available in 4", 7" and tiny sticks for tiny dogs). Always supervise when giving a new chew to any dog, of course, but we think you'll love them. Check them out next time you come in!! |

Please welcome our two newest employees, Crystal and Cindy! Crystal joined us as a full time employee in early December, coming to us with a background as a veterinary technician. Cindy joined us part time in February, and comes to us with a dog training background (she's APDT certified, something you want to look for in a trainer if you need one) and her own dog walking business. This makes 9 employees, if you're counting (5 are full time), and that just about covers us, for now. You wouldn't believe all of the things that need doing in a day!

Amenity Shoes moves "a few feet" - Amenity shoes used to be around the corner on 42nd, but when Full Circle closed they took the opportunity to move up front into their Fremont Street spot. Looks beautiful! (see photo)
Laughing Planet is now open in Hollywood!
The healthy-menu cafe’s extensive renovation features three interior spaces divided by “living” walls, with 65 seats inside and an additional seating for 20-24 at a patio-area on the southern side of the building. The ambience of the Hollywood space will reflects a playful, design-forward aesthetic that Laughing Planet achieves by collaborating with local artists. The Hollywood location will feature a 17- by 17-foot mural of Godzilla fighting genetically-modified agriculture, and a colorful collection of re-purposed Josef Stalin busts, designed and decorated by local pop artist Troy – with a handful of “surprise” artists adding their contributions to the project. The staple menu will also include seasonal specials with 100% locally-sourced, farm fresh ingredients and rotating weekly specials. Beginning in May, the Hollywood store will feature eight signature cocktails – in addition to the standard beer and wine. 1914 NE 42nd Ave.
