Subject: Fremont Fest is Almost Here!

Fremont Fest is Aug 1st!
Don't miss out on fabulous neighborhood fun!

On the first Saturday of August every year, the Beaumont Business Association puts on a big street festival to say thank you to all of our wonderful neighbors who support our local business community throughout the year. This is the 29th annual Fremont Fest, and it's going to be great! We shut down the street from 42nd to 49th and it's filled with vendors selling crafts and food, a kid's zone (with kid friendly vendors, Umpqua will be giving away free ice creams while supplies last, kid's activity stations, face painting, puppet shows by "Dragon Theater Puppets and Princesses") and an area set up by "Soccer Shots". Local businesses will be ready with great sales and fun activities, and there will be two live music stages (lots of soul and funk to be had this year, and one of the first acts will be by "Portland Teen Idols", the winners of a local American Idol style contest). Oh yes, we can't forget the Pub Crawl! ($10 will get  you a taster cup and 6 fills at at least 6 local restaurants. If you get a stamp at all 6, you can enter your card in a raffle for $100 cash from the BBA). In other beer related news, there are two great places to relax with a beer and food in the shade: First, Lil' Wares (on the patio of the old Red Fig space at 46th) is having their own little beer garden with 15 brewers each with multiple pours, and Bottles is having a big 5 year anniversary party! They're also a stop on the Pub Crawl, so their fabulous shady patio would be a great place to relax and turn in your raffle card after enjoying the Fest.
Don't forget to check out the 2 booths we have donated to local rescues: Project Pooch
who has successfully paired youths incarcerated at the MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn, Oregon, with homeless shelter dogs since 1993. Youths (guided by professionals) learn to train the dogs, groom them, and find them new adoptive "forever homes." The dogs leave the program ready to be great pets, while their trainers re-enter the community with new job and personal skills and increased compassion and respect for all life. Also, we'll be donating a booth to Lovers Not Fighters Pit Bull Rescue, who are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and advocating for pit bulls and pit bull type dogs. Their long-term goal is to have a small facility for our rescues, until then, they need dedicated fosters to help us in their life saving work! They also frequently have donation drives for homeless and under-served pet owners with dogs of all breeds and sizes (see below).
Especially Don't Miss Out On The Pet Parade!

Every year, Fremont Fest is kicked off by a fun parade! It's full of kids with decorated bicycles, families that have made little floats, a marching band, a firetruck, vintage cars, local groups from our community such as dancers and kids from a local karate studio and of course the Green Dog Pet Parade! Even better, this year Whole Foods has stepped forward to sponsor our parade! We'll gather at Beaumont Middle School at 9:30am on August 1st, where you can meet the firemen while you check out the firetruck and get some pre-parade snacks provided by Whole Foods. Starting at 9:45 kid's prizes will be awarded for categories like Best Costume, Best Decorated Bike, and Best Float. Green Dog Pet Supply will be awarding great prizes for the Best Dog Costumes, Best Human/Dog coordinated costumes, Most Enthusiastic Marcher and more! Every dog that marches in the Green Dog Pet Parade contingent will get a free giant cookie and a free doggie ice cream back at the store after the parade! The parade starts at 10am and travels down Fremont St. through Beaumont Village. Hope to see you there!
Donation Drive

Lovers Not Fighters Put Bull Rescue is sponsoring a drive for gently used leashes, collars, and harnesses of all sizes, as well as food, toys, treats, and flea treatments. They are putting together little care packages to distribute to homeless and underserved pet owners (for any sized dog). Check your closets and drawers for clean, gently used items and bring them in before August 15th to the donation bin that we have at Green Dog!
Thanks!

A Great New Chew for Dogs!

Brand new on the market: No-Hide! These are tightly rolled chicken skin chews that are really lasting! Unlike regular rawhide which is not digestible and is often made with dangerous chemicals, these chews are made from humanely raised chickens, are digestible and are made without chemicals in the USA. We were given 2 to test out about a month ago, and we couldn't wait for them to come out, as they outlasted bully sticks for both the dogs we tested them on (and are half the price of a bully stick). They really seemed to like them, and they were both tired out by them in the end. That's some earnest chewing! We can't wait for more people to try them and let us know what they think. Right now we have them in 7" and 4", with smaller twists coming soon for the little guys.
Nordic Naturals Fish Oil for Pets

We are so pleased to bring in Nordic Naturals! Many of you may already be familiar with this brand, as it’s the best selling fish oil (for humans) in the US. The reasons for this are many, as they are carefully managing every step of the process in order to offer the highest quality fish oil on the planet. It’s sustainably sourced, with careful choice of fish species that are naturally low in toxins and high in omega–3 fats. Wild–caught from some of the cleanest waters in the world, all of their products are made exclusively from four types of fish, none of which is endangered: Arctic cod from Norwegian waters; anchovies and sardines from the Southern Pacific Ocean; and salmon from Alaska's Cook Inlet. A purification process removes any potential environmental toxins (heavy metals, dioxins, PCBs, etc.), saturated fats, and other undesirable organic compounds, leaving only the beneficial components of the fish oil (omegas 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, etc.). They also utilize a proprietary nitrogen (oxygen–free) environment to achieve their leading freshness levels, and to further reduce heat requirements, thereby maintaining the integrity of the oils. Since their founding, Nordic Naturals has actively embraced responsibility for the impact that their activities have on the environment—in our oceans, as well as in their processing, their offices, their partnerships, and our communities. We are happy to bring in their fabulous oils for pets, and they are, as many of you will be glad to know, packaged in glass bottles. Read more here
