| Life's Greatest Adventure!

The big news astrologically this month is the Grand Cardinal Cross from 19-28th April that peaks on April 22nd. A Grand Cross is formed when four planets are 'squared' at right-angles (90º) to each other, which means two pairs of 'oppositions', forming a cross and square shape (see picture).
This particular cross is at 13º of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) , so if you have 12-14º of those signs prominent in your chart, this will affect you more personally (to see where in your life this will affect you look to the house positions that the four planets are transiting).

| | This is generally considered a 'tense' aspect pattern which creates challenges. In rising up to meet these challenges, we are catalyzed to a new level of our growth and development. The planets involved in this particular Grand Cross are very powerful. For example Mars, the Roman "God of War", associated with assertion, personal drive and even aggression is in 'opposition' to Uranus, the planet of individuality, technology, rebellion and innovation! Jupiter, the planet of growth, expansion and benevolence is in 'opposition' to Pluto the planet of power, destruction and transformation. Needless to say there is concern about the effects of this Cardinal Grand Cross and you will read much on the internet about the potential for more social unrest and upheaval, but that is only part of the picture.
To place everything in perspective, it might be helpful to look at this Cardinal Grand Cross from a more Soul-Centered perspective. First of all, it's important to notice that all the players are not equal in this planetary 'tug-of-war'. The planets closest to earth tend to affect us more on a personal level, (that would be Mars and Jupiter) while the 'distant' planets tend to be more social and Universal in their effects (that would be Uranus and Pluto). (Although if they are making transits to important planets and points in your chart there will be more of a direct effect for you).
Mars is at his weakest in Libra, where the 'God of War' is forced to consider ethics and seek the most harmonious solution. So we have a 'weak' Mars in Libra 'opposing' Uranus in Aries. In Soul Astrology Uranus is actually the hierarchical ruler of Aries and the Soul Ruler of Libra, so Uranus holds more power than Mars in this polarity. This means there is the potential for a new type of leadership to arise in society, one that is more intuitive, spiritually aware, harmonious and connected. Mars is the personality ruler of Aries so Mars in Aries' opposite sign of Libra brings a sense of balance and harmony to the Aries-Libra polarity, while Uranus, the Soul Ruler of Libra elevates that to the highest octave of Libra. In this configuration there could be less resistance from the self-centered personality, and a justification that change is needed for the higher good. Mars in Libra and Uranus in Aries is a call to rise to the highest Soul octaves of Aries-Libra: marrying inspiration, innovation, and Divine ideas with balance, ethics, harmony and Higher Love!
Meanwhile, Jupiter is at his best in this configuration. He is in 'exaltation' in Cancer which means his energy is strong and most actively creative. The highest soul purpose of Cancer is compassion and unconditional love, so now we have the planet of expansion and higher wisdom ideally placed to expand our awareness of our own true nature, compassion and unconditional love. The 'opposition' in this polarity is Pluto (transformation through destruction) in Capricorn (social structures, government, financial institutions). Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008 and will remain until 2023 so this isn't a sudden change. We have already been experiencing Pluto's effects in terms of 'dismantling' outmoded, corrupt and defunct systems of government, corporations, banks and financial institutions.
Pluto is the 'great revealer', who brings things into the light for healing. Some of the darker practices of corporations and banks have been revealed under this Pluto aspect, so that as a society we can choose a better way of doing business and managing our worlds resources. The current 'opposition' of Jupiter brings wisdom and the light of compassion to bear on this whole process of revelation and change - to ensure that the new systems we put in place are driven by compassion with a focus on meeting the needs of our human family. You'll notice I keep putting 'opposition' in quotation marks, because every 'opposition' is really an opportunity for harmony. Cancer-Capricorn (and Aries-Libra) are really two ends of one energetic spectrum and in every opposition is an inherent opportunity for resolution.
Remember that the four planets are also connected by a square aspect, so rather than looking at two pairs of opposites in isolation, we can see a unique energy field bounded by these four planets: Mars, the God of War, is currently out of character and seeking harmony in Libra, Pluto is bringing to light what needs to be healed in our societal structures, Uranus in Aries wants a revolution of individuality and with Jupiter in Cancer this could be a revolution of compassion - if we stay awake and aware!
Overall it is a powerful time of change - and a huge opportunity for the expansion of compassion, and the introduction of more human-centered, relationship oriented, systems that support our growing body of humanity. The key to riding the waves of change this month is to remain as present as you can, and to live from your heart. When you access the energy of your heart center you will be tapping into the 'Jupiter in Cancer' wave, and become part of the revolution of compassion that wants to happen!
