Why Are We So Sick?

By Rick Montieth

Until about 1970, the majority of Americans were fit as a fiddle with very little obesity. No keto, vegan, or paleo diets. No home aerobics and very few gym memberships. Nobody was drinking protein drinks or counting calories. So what happened?

In no particular order, here are 7 reasons why we are so sick and not living as long as we used to.

  1. The average American spends 10 times more than in the 1970’s on medications. Rather than addressing the root cause, we are quick to take a prescription. Allowing the drug companies to advertise on TV starting in the late 1990’s helped to propel this.

  2. The consumption of polyunsaturated vegetable (seed) oils has risen dramatically and greatly contributed to cases of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, macular degeneration, and neurological issues. Saturated fat has been demonized by our health “authorities”.

  3. Vaccines are harming us, not protecting us. In the 1960’s, children received up to 5 vaccines. Today it is 72 and rising. Each vaccination potentially harms the microbiome, which likely leads to long term physical problems (and death).

  4. Environmental toxins, especially glyphosate-based herbicides like Roundup can cause cancer, dysbiosis, obesity, neurological conditions, and other diseases. Look for my future blog article coming in 2024 that exposes all the harm caused by glyphosate.

  5. Dangerous plastics. Phthalates in plastics disrupt hormone functions and can lead to hormonal imbalances, increasing the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes.

  6. Dietary poisoning. Processed foods are everywhere. Omega-6-rich seed oils and refined sugars are found in almost everything. We have traded real food for convenience.

  7. Lack of nutrition. The average mineral content of calcium, magnesium, and iron in cabbage, tomatoes, lettuce and spinach has dropped 80 to 90% between 1914 and 2018. Our soils are depleted in minerals and nutrients.

What can we do about this? My top three recommendations are to avoid glyphosate, avoid all

vaccines, and avoid PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acids). These three are contributing mightily to our poor health and shortening our lifespan. Also, limit refined sugar intake. Eat saturated fats and avoid PUFAs (vegetable oils). Eat real foods in moderation. Choose organic whenever possible. Avoid excess estrogen sources. Exercise. Get in the sun if possible. Sleep well.
