WOOHOO! This week my wife and I will be celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary! Applause!!! It’s a time to celebrate and a time to reflect back on all the Lord has done in our marriage and our family’s lives.
We have been through a lot. Some of you don’t know this but Liza and I were previously married to other people. So when we married each other, we brought some language into our vocabulary that should have been removed. One of those words was ‘divorce’. Of course there were some other words used but the word divorce was now in our vocabulary. So when things got rough, we would just throw that word around until we actually decided to divorce each other.
As the process began, we thought we got divorced, but God had other plans. When we reconciled, we had to start by taking out some words from our prior relationship and remove them from our vocabulary. Then we had to replace the word divorce with words like commitment.
Words have a lot of power, especially when you start to believe in them! Proverbs 18:21 tells us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit”. When using the word divorce we were speaking death over our marriage, instead of speaking life.
What words have you been using in your relationships with your spouse, children, co-workers, etc.? Are there words like…Hate? Divorce? Separation, etc.? Begin to replace these words and make a commitment that words like them should not exist in your vocabulary.
Speak LIFE into your marriage and everyone around you!
