| I have never met a pie I didn’t like. Warm, fruity, gooey inside and flaky buttery crust on the outside. I liked them all. That is, until I got served a good helping of humble pie.
No one likes getting called out for their flaws, an honest-to-goodness need to change. The truth hurts sometimes, and my humble pie gave me a bit of indigestion.
But then I remembered that “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble” [James 4:6]. And I couldn’t forget the proverb, “…Humility comes before honor” [Proverbs 18:12]. And what about God saying, “I live… with those whose spirits are contrite and humble” [Isaiah 57:15 NLT]?
Yeah, it’s easy to take offense and brush off criticism. But sometimes we need to take a good hard look at ourselves and make some changes, forgive or apologize (or all 3).
It might not taste good, but go ahead and take a big bite. Humble pie is always served with some extra sides. Grace, honor, and a new level of His Presence will be soon to follow!
