Health Insurance: Change Is Good?

Maybe if it means less time in waiting rooms . . .

Most HR professionals and business people would have to question the assertion that changes in the health insurance industry have produced anything good. After struggling with rising costs, increased compliance regulation, and declining coverage for valuable employees, it’s understandable.

Yet, new innovations like preventive health management and telemedicine are direct outgrowths of the chaotic healthcare and insurance situation. Businesses and individuals are turning to telemedicine for an easier, more cost-effective solution to non-emergency needs for health care. According to data compiled by Statista, the number of telehealth patients has increased from 350,000 in 2013 to a projected 7 million users this year. And yes, telemedicine means less time (and exposure) in waiting rooms.

A new guest post on the GEA blog by George Hearn of MRG of Georgia, LLC provides more details about the benefits of telemedicine and preventive health management for employers.  Implementing Proactive Health Management Plans will also be a presentation topic at the upcoming GEA Spring Conference.

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Interviewing

And Even More – Lunch and Learn on April 4

Interviews are the best opportunity you get to evaluate the quality of the people you’re going to hire before you hire them. That makes good sense, but many managers really aren’t effective interviewers. They fail to prepare in advance, don’t ask questions that reveal likely behavior, and sometimes they talk too much.

GEA’s next Lunch and Learn is entitled Strategic Recruiting, Interviewing, and Selection: Putting the Right Talent on Your Team. Even if you’re a practiced interviewer, you’ll learn something new at this afternoon workshop.

Here are a few of the topics:

  • Recruiting techniques for a tight labor market
  • Identifying key competencies and criteria before the interview
  • 5 types of interview questions
  • Taking Notes: What to document (and what not to)

The Lunch and Learn Workshop will benefit HR professionals and managers in your organization who are involved in recruiting and interviewing. It’s scheduled for Wednesday April 4 in Macon. Click the link or the image for more information about the GEA's monthly Lunch and Learn seminars.
