An Inspiring First

There are very few times in life where you are able to witness the “First” of anything. Last weekend I was able to watch the first Augusta National Women’s Amateur. It was a joy to see Augusta National open the course to these amateur athletes from around the world. The camaraderie shown by the top two players, Jennifer Kupcho and Maria Fassi, inspired me. Rarely ever do you witness the top two players in any tournament “fist pump” and clap for the other players shots, interact with the crowd and be able to show their level of play on a tough course while making incredible shots.

It was inspiring to me was to see the number of fans at the course for an amateur event, but even more inspiring was the number of little girls in the crowd who can now dream of winning at Augusta. As a grandfather of two little girls, I want them to see the possibilities in life that Jennifer Kupcho, the first champion, now knows. I appreciate the way the players gave those little ones the attention they gave while walking from one green to the next tee.

I know it is a beginning. I would like to see Augusta National offer a professional women’s championship in the future, but for now, I truly appreciate the opportunity to have seen these amateur athletes compete in this “first” Augusta National Women’s Amateur.

Spring Conference a Success!

I am pleased to report our Georgia Employers’ Association Spring Conference in Savannah was a success. The presentations on Workforce Development and Legal Updates provided attendees with suggestions and examples of successful plan design for development in manufacturing, medical, and educational fields. I would like to thank presenters, sponsors and attendees for making this event fun and informative for all of us.

The conference kicked off with golf and spa time for some of our participants, followed by a Sunday sunset reception on the golf course. There were presentations throughout the day on Monday and topped off with an evening meal at the Chart House on River Street. On Tuesday, we once again met for presentations with everyone departing in the afternoon.

A special thanks to Mel Haas for emceeing the event again this year. In addition, I would like to thank Heather Dillard-Hammonds for leading the team in planning the event and making it a success as usual. Heather, we could not have done it without you!

Plan on joining us for our Georgia Employers’ Association Fall Conference on November 7, 2019 at the Ritz-Carlton at Lake Oconee. The registration site will be announced soon. Hope to see you there!
