APRIL
T.S. Eliot called it the "cruelest month."
Shakespeare wrote of its "uncertain glory."

For FRESH New London,
April has meant "Getting Busy!"
Here is just a quick glance at what FRESH did (so far) in April:

Spring Break! FRESH worked with ten teenagers throughout the Spring Break week. They learned about plants, food justice and mindful gardening. They cooked together, worked together and laughed (alot) together. They'll continue to work with us on Saturdays for the rest of the school year and we hope to see many of them again during our Summer program as well.

New Community Garden!! We built a dozen garden beds at McDonald Park, FRESH's New Community Garden (McDonald Street and Connecticut Avenue, New London). About 60 people signed in at that great event and more than 100 hot dogs and loads of rice and beans and fruit were consumed! It was lovely to see kids wielding power drills and fastening together a new, vibrant, nutritious reality for their community space.

We held our EARLY Plant Sale, at the FRESH Urban Farm! Everyone worked really hard and many people bought the up-cycled t-shirts that the FRESH youth silk screened during Spring Break. FRESH also launched our Membership Drive (more to come on that one!)

That is just a smidge of what we accomplished. But, we want to impress you, not exhaust you so instead of giving you a big report on everything we did, we will just share a handful of pictures from April. Watch this space for fuller reports and multiple invitations to our upcoming events in early May!

Hurray for April!
Here is the Spring Break Crew, Staff and Board members at Spark Markerspace (below) after a rousing round of silk-screening the awesome new FRESH shirts (above).
This lovely picture graced the front of The Day's Region section the day after our McDonald Park work day (Sunday, April 16)
And here are Erick Carrion and Jesse Good installing the FRESH weather vane that Jesse made! Thank you, Jesse Good!
