FRESH New London
Dear Friends,

Well, the end of February is upon us which means...IT'S TIME TO START GARDEN PLANNING!!! Our seeds are starting to arrive (we've ordered so many good things this year!) and we'll be started the early crops this weekend. Some of the seedlings will be planted in our snack beds and urban farm, and some will be transplanted into little pots for our Early Spring Plant Sale, which is scheduled for April 30 at the Mercer St Garden.

We've also been taking advantage of the warm days to build garden beds for people's backyards. Do you want one? Quantities are limited, so order soon!

If you're planning on having an in-ground garden this year, FRESH has teamed up with Connecticut College'Ecological Agriculture Class to offer FREE SOIL TESTINGStudents from Botany 230 will consult with you about learn about your goals and take soil samples from your existing or future garden. Samples are analyzed for nutrients, pH, organic matter, and lead and then the team will prepare a recommendation to help meet your goals. Find out more below!

Oh, and speaking of ordering, our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) signup is now open! We will have 10 market-rate and 20 sliding scale-rate shares available this year, and, per our community's request, pickup will go back to Thursdays. We'll keep the registration open until April 1, and then hold a lottery if we get more people than we have shares available.

We're also going to be doing some more planting and beautifying at our McDonald St. Garden. Do you have any plants to donate? Here is our wish list: Butterfly bush, Yarrow, Bee balm, Lavender, Japanese anemone, Sedum, Hyacinth, Daffodil, Crocus, Tuscon sunflower, Butterfly weed, Purple milkweed, Common milkweed, Common sage, Lambs ear

And last (but certainly not least) we're starting up Saturday workdays again! We've missed working in the gardens with all of you so much. Beginning on March 19, please join us each week 10:00-12:00 at Mercer to weed, plant, harvest, and chat!

You can find more out about all these great things below, and meet our newest staff member and flyer-maker extraordinaire, India Charles!

And stay tuned (or visit our website!) to hear more about Community Garden signups, the Spring Youth Crew Program and our Community Knowledge Share project that has quick videos to help get your garden started (and will have more soon!).
