FRESH New London
February Newsletter
Saint Valentine was a letter writer... and a prisoner. That much we know, but there is little in the historic record about his love of vegetables.

But, we love tiny vegetables seedlings and potting soil and the way each day is a little longer than the last.

It's true! Today the sun will set at 5:21and tomorrow it will set at 5:23 and before you know it we'll be complaining about how hot it is!

We aren't quite to spring, but we are working hard to be ready when she comes! In this issue of the Newsletter (sorry to make you wait sooooo long for it) we'll share how we've been keeping busy (mostly inside) in these short, chilly days and introduce you to some new faces you'll see around the FRESH scene and toss alot of upcoming dates your way!

Happy Valentines Day to you and all you love!

Looking for a Way to Express Your Love?  Say it With Seeds!
FRESH New London just sent Puerto Rico a Seed Valentine!

Yes, we put in an order for Seeds for PR in response to a call from Doctor Rick Asselta, a Connecticut native living and working Puerto Rico with the Jane Goodall Institute where he organizes the Roots & Shoots Environmental Program for Youth. In an email, he wrote that "due to the complete destruction of Hurricane Maria, fresh vegetables are almost nonexistent after a hurricane."

STILL. When was that Hurricane? October of last year!

Dr. Rick is asking for simple garden seeds (see list below) and says that his group will distribute all seeds to communities and families as well as train them on basic gardening techniques.

Here is the list of seeds to send!
Any kind of beans
Pumpkins & Squash
Corn
Peas
Pigeon peas
Any kind of green leaf vegetable
Onions
Melons, any kind
Cucumbers
Eggplant
Cilantro

Dr. Rick writes, "This is strictly a people to people program. We are avoiding government involvement due to the difficult economic and political situation in Puerto Rico. Everything you donate will go directly to those in need of food and willing to work to grow it."

Please send seeds to:
