FRESH New London
Welcome to New London's newest Community Garden.

As you can see, there is sun, soil, freshly built beds, a small green house.

What more does it need?

Water! And a Shed!

The Ledyard Street Community Garden is on a small parcel, near the corner of Vauxhall & Ledyard Streets. We planted native currant bushes, lined the sidewalk with snack beds for the neighborhood to harvest, built more than a dozen raised beds and filled them with nutrient rich soils and started setting up a rainwater catchment system.

We are inviting local families to grow their own food, starting this month!

While the basics are covered, we want to make people’s experience of growing their own food is easy and enjoyable. So we are raising money this month to pay for access to city water and a new shed.

The land for the Ledyard Street Garden was once owned by Robert G. Youngs, a master carpenter for the City of New London who loved The Whaling City. His estate not only donated the land, which is now held by the Southeastern Connecticut Community Land Trust, but also contributed the first $5,000 to launch the gardens.

We hope the community can match the Robert G Youngs Family Foundation contribution and get us one step closer to building an #Edible New London!
