FRESH New London: Empowering Youth, Growing Food and Building Stronger Communities
YOUTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Meet our Jr. Staff!

Elvis Herrera is an 18 year old high school student...for now ;) I have chosen to continue to learn through my work at FRESH primarily to educate not only myself, but other people my age. I started FRESH when I was 14-15 and I enjoy how this is and has always been a safe space. Finally, a fun fact about me is that I have multiple adult level certifications because I go to a trade school. I can cook a mean plate'a'food, just give me a recipe ^.^
SOCIAL JUSTICE
The Cedar Tree Foundation is a family foundation created by the late pediatrician and entrepreneur, Dr. David Smith. Dr. Smith believed in the power of individuals and organizations to make significant changes in the world. The Cedar Tree Foundation continues to reflect that belief in its environmental grantmaking and programs.

One of their newer grant cycles, Rooted in Justice, recognizes the importance and undeniable right of every young person to have the ability to develop their own relationship with the environment, be it through growing food, spending time with nature, creating community green spaces, or becoming environmental stewards. Rooted in Justice also honors the power and possibilities that arise when young people collectively work to be change-makers in their communities.

Rooted in Justice grants support existing organizations or programs that include the elements of: social justice, urban greening, youth-led, and cohort-based youth work.

FRESH would like to thank The Cedar Tree Foundation for their support of our Youth Leadership Development program. To find out more about this wonderful foundation, visit their website, HERE
