On the first day of school, children are often asked to share about their summer. Some children don’t have much to say since they didn’t go on vacation or to summer camp or the pool. These children worry about their next meal, who will look out for them, and where they will sleep at night. So, writing an essay on “how I spent my summer” can be troublesome. Thanks to Family Promise of Butler County and our CLUB180 members, Jessica will have something to write about this year.
The staff of Family Promise of Butler County recently took our families to the Butler County Fair. Jessica and her siblings had never been to a fair before, nor had they ever had a chance to touch or see a farm animal up close. While discussing how she loved the pigs, Jessica shared that this has been the best summer of her life! This year she didn’t have to worry about where they were going to stay or whether there would be food, and she now has new friends. Jessica let the volunteers at the church know that she would be coming back to see them because she had so much fun. For this child, Family Promise brought a sense of well-being and belonging. Her parents have been able to take a breath, secure better jobs, and are well on their way to being stable and balanced.
For our children here at Family Promise of Butler County, thoughts of being hungry, who will be looking out for them and where they will be sleeping aren’t as much on their minds. Because of our day center, host churches and congregations, we are able to ensure that these kids are sheltered, fed and loved. We are only able to do all of this because of generous donors and gracious volunteers.
Club180 is our annual campaign to focus on how the life of a child can be turned around 180 degrees. We started June 29, the 180th day of the year, and it will end July 31. Please consider making a donation of $180 this summer and becoming a member of our Club 180. Your donation will help shelter, feed and support a family of 4 for 4 days. Be the reason a child doesn’t have to dread writing that essay!
