Subject: 🏈 Football season is over but we're kicking off to a great new year! 🥳

Greetings Friends!

We hope this finds you well and that your 2023 is off to a great start! We at Family Promise of Butler County have hit the ground running as we prepare for another year of creating a community where every family has a home and a future of promise. Read on to learn more about what we're up to!

A Family Story:

Empowered to build a sustainable foundation of independence

In early June of last year, we received a call from a fellow social worker who came across a family living in their mini-van on I-75 (here in Butler County).  This family of 7 had been homeless for 6 weeks.

Due to an injury that created significant mobility issues for him, “Tom” lost his job in 2021, and “Judy” became his caregiver. Because Tom was unable to work and Judy was not able to maintain full-time employment due to caregiver duties, they fell behind on their mortgage and were eventually foreclosed on. With no funds and no family to help, they were forced to begin living in their van. Consequently, the children struggled to attend school, and the family had no way to shower or do laundry, making life very difficult.

Upon entering the shelter program through Family Promise of Butler County, the family was able to shower and do laundry, they felt safe in their sleeping arrangements, and we worked on creating a budget that would work for them. With our assistance, they were able to get a temporary housing voucher, which was then transferred to a permanent housing voucher.

Tom, Judy, and the children now have a permanent place to live, rent is based on income (Tom is now receiving social security and Judy works part-time), the children are attending school regularly, they celebrated the holidays without a black cloud hanging over them, and life is definitely looking up!

We are so excited for the family and grateful for the fact that we had the resources to step in and assist them in stabilizing their lives. We could not do what we do without your generous gifts, so THANK YOU for your support!

Put on your thinking caps and JOIN US for our first FUNdraiser of 2023!

Here we are, already a month and a half into a new year, and I’m wondering if the whole year will go as fast as the last 6 weeks.

For many of us, 2022 flew by and for others, it was a year full of change. For Family Promise of Butler County, it was a year of change and of many promising stories.

Some of the changes we encountered were the lingering effects of Covid, changes in staff, opening our new Day Center, the loss of a couple of host congregations, new board members, and personal tragedies for staff.

On a positive note, we are so grateful to say that we were able to bring Brianna Batts on as our Shelter Program Manager. Brianna interned with us in 2019 and loved it so much that she came back as a full-time employee. Join me in welcoming her and all her new fresh ideas.

I would also like to welcome our 3 new board members: Ken Krusling, Kathy Wyenandt, and Libby Willms. All three have been engaged with FPBC as volunteers and we are certainly excited to have them join us on the board!

Now for the really great news! We were able to serve 41 families (59 adults, 80 children) in the shelter. 37 of these families graduated successfully and moved into permanent affordable housing. We were also able to serve 75 families with prevention, which enabled them to stay in their current housing. So far in 2023, we have served 7 families (7 adults, 10 children) and 3 of them have already successfully graduated!

We are poised to do great things in 2023, and we are hopeful that you will join us in our vision and mission of serving children and their families who are experiencing homelessness here in Butler County.

Sincerely,
